Adopt un olivo from the farm "Terra Surti" in Sortino SR (Italia) and receive your harvest in the form of extra virgin olive oil at home. Elio will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

¿Qué adoptas?

You adopt un olivo from our farm in Sortino SR (Italia) that we cultivate following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union. We are already in the process of converting and expect to be officially certified by 2023. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your olivo. The cultivation of the olive tree first occurred in the Middle East, corresponding to today's Turkey over six thousand years ago. The trade of the ancient Greeks has spread it in all the countries of the Mediterranean. However, it was the Roman Empire that promoted and encouraged olive cultivation throughout Italy. The tree is very long-lived (several hundred years); under favourable conditions it is able to reach a thousand years of age. It is an evergreen plant with a cylindrical and rather twisted stem. Its bark has a dark gray color and the wood that is obtained from it is very heavy. It is used to built very valuable furniture. The roots of the olive tree are powerful, remain on the surface and never go beyond 100cm deep. The leaves are very small and have a lanceolate shape of glaucous green colour. The fruit, the olive, is an oval-shaped drupe that can weigh up to 3 grams; the oil that is extracted from it is contained in its pulp at 25-30%. On our farm there are several varieties of olive trees: Frantoio, Leccino and Nocellara dell'Etna, which are typical of the area. The olive harvest, carried out by hand or by means of pneumatic combs so as not to damage the fruit, takes place respecting the different ripening times of the different varieties. We collect olives respecting and protecting the fauna that inhabits our fields, especially birds. This is why we have signed the manifest for the protection of migratory birds in olive groves. The milling takes place within 24 hours of harvesting, using disc or hammer mills to enhance the characteristics of the oil. The extraction is carried out by "cold" pressing, the only one that preserves the nutritional characteristics of the product, minerals, vitamins and antioxidant properties. The preservation of the oil takes place in steel silos under nitrogen, in the absence of oxygen, at a constant and controlled temperature. Terra Surti oil is bottled only on demand to preserve its unique and harmonious taste along with its aromas. Your adoption is 32 years old and its productive life is 200 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops being able to produce for any reason, we will replace it with an other, and we guarantee your delivery from the produce of others for that season. Your olivo produces an average of 30kg of olives each season. With this amount we can produce around 6l of extra virgin olive oil.

¿Qué recibes?

Each season we will send you a box with: 2 x __Extra virgin olive oil__ (3l, can) The oil has a unique and harmonious taste, with strong and pleasant aromas, the result of careful selection of different native varieties such as Frantoio, Leccino and Nocellara dell'Etna, typical of the area. It has a fruity taste tending towards spicy which makes it ideal for all daily uses in the kitchen, suitable for dressing salads and various types of dishes such as grilled fish and meat. Keep the oil in cool, dry places with little temperatur changes, and protect it from contact with air, light and heat. Contrary to common thinking, cold does not cause changes in the texture of the oil. The best containers are those made of stainless steel or dark glass. Avoid of transparent glass containers and plastics.

¿Cuándo lo recibes?

The olive harvest takes place between the end of October and November. The oil obtained before sale must decant a few months, for this reason we ship the product by the end of March.
