Adopt a kiwi plant from the farm "Opera Terrae" in Rosarno (Italia) and receive your harvest in the form of organic yellow kiwis at home. Pasquale will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

¿Qué adoptas?

You adopt a kiwi plant from our farm in Rosarno (Italia). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union since 2004. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your kiwi plant. The production of kiwis in our region began about thirty years ago. Since then it has been discovered that in this area the *actinidia* has found an ideal habitat for producing excellent fruit. *Actinidia* is a genus of plants whose fruits are known as kiwis. Plants of this kind can be shrubs or climbing plants, in which only the female plants produce fruit. The male plants are only used for pollination. Today we study the best methods of cultivation and irrigation, working with a team of agronomists and using innovative systems that can guarantee the best in Organic Farming. On our land we produce the Soreli variety. The kiwi originated from the Middle East and, until the beginning of 1900, was only grown in China. In the early 1900s it was introduced in New Zealand. In Italy it was introduced around 1970, firstly in northern Italy and then in the rest of the country. The Soreli kiwi is the first yellow-fleshed kiwi variety to be selected and patented in Italy. The plant is aesthetically identical to the classic green kiwi and can only be distinguished by its fruit, which has no hair and is yellow inside. Your adoption is 7 years old and its productive life is around 25 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your kiwi plant produces an average of 40kg of organic yellow kiwis each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.

¿Qué recibes?

During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve at the moment of adoption. You will be able to receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 10 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __4kg box of organic kiwis__ * Soreli: smooth, hairless skin, golden pulp and a sweet, lingering taste, stronger than green-fleshed varieties * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2004 * Contrary to other fruits, kiwis cannot be harvested gradually and need to be harvested all at once when having reached their full maturity. In order to avoid food waste and to ensure farmer’s economic stability, they are kept in cold storage, never longer than the current season (maximum of 12 weeks storage) * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 7 and 12 fruits (the box contains between 28 and 48 fruits depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 2 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * It is a climacteric fruit, harvested when it reaches physiological ripeness but continues to evolve after harvesting until it is ready for consumption * Important: The fruits usually arrive hard, keep them at room temperature until they reach they are ready to eat; if you receive an already ripe piece, you can put it in the fridge or eat it straight away The kiwi must be peeled with a knife, or cut in half horizontally, scooping each of the two parts out with a teaspoon. This last procedure can be done only when the fruit is well ripe. The riper it is, the sweeter it will be on the palate. To speed up the ripening process, you can put the fruit in a closed bag with apples or bananas.

¿Cuándo lo recibes?

Harvesting will be done from September to November. If harvested at a Brix degree at least equal to 6 and by storing them in a refrigerator at a controlled temperature between 0-4°C they remain hard and do not change their organoleptic properties. Compared to other fruits they cannot stay on trees once they are ripe. If left on the tree, they would fall to the ground or be damaged by frost. The use of cold rooms does hence not represent a forced conservation of fruits, but a natural one for their maintenance.
