¿Qué adoptas?

You adopt 3m² of a tomato field from our farm in Nardò (Italia). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2016. We specialise in open field production of baby plum tomatoes, following the practices of organic farming and regenerative organic farming. In spring, we plant out our tomatoes in fields where we have practised three year crop rotation, in soil which has been manured with green vegetables and other essences (known as 'green' fertilization). This manure and crop rotation process returns nitrogen to the soil which is essential for plants. What makes our products special is the flavour. Only by tasting them can you truly understand how the natural way in which they have been grown contributes to the fullness of the flavour, and this comes from having followed the rhythms of nature, without forcing them. We practise certified organic farming, and we try to intervene in the field as little as possible. We start with a healthy soil and trust that nature can balance and restore itself. The cherry tomato is one of the most widely cultivated tomatoes in Italy. It adapts very well to many different types of climate, but it still prefers a temperate and warm climate, which is typical in southern Italy. Unlike other tomato varieties, it is an indeterminate-growing plant, so we prepare a support made of canes on which it grows. As the plant grows, we fix it to the cane and, when it reaches 2 metres tall, we top it so as to stop the growth and allow the clusters to develop and ripen. Other varieties of tomatoes, on the other hand, are determinate-growing and do not need any support to grow. The datterino tomato comes from Asia and has spread throughout the world, finding its ideal climate in Italy. The fiaschetto tomato is typical of southern Italy. This tomato was on the verge of disappearing because it required more work to grow, compared with other varieties. However more recently, it is becoming popular again in southern Italy. The striped tomato, the red cherry and the black cherry tomatoes are non-hybrid varieties. The seeds are collected by us and reseeded from year to year. Tomatoes come in different shapes and sizes, but the plant from year to year is better adapted to the area (climate and soil). Your tomato field produces an average of 8kg of organic baby plum tomatoes each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

¿Qué recibes?

You can reserve between 2 and 4 boxes for the season, and then plan the deliveries for any of the delivery dates available in the shipment calendar. Shipping format: __2 kg box of organic baby plum tomatoes__ * Red Datterino: slightly elongated, firm flesh, very sweet and with few seeds * Red Fiaschetto: characterised by the presence of a tip at the bottom and with a slightly sour flavour * Red Cherry: round shape, very sweet and juicy * Yellow Fiaschetto: characterised by the presence of a tip at the bottom, slightly sour flavour and rich in beta-carotene * Black Cherry: characterised by black or dark purple peel, round shape, very sweet and rich in lycopene and anthocyanins * Striped: red peel with yellow or green stripes, sweet and delicate flavour * Golden Nugget: very small berry tomato, golden yellow to orange when the fruit is ripe, very high sugar content * Subject to their availability, we will send you 3 varieties of cherry tomatoes, two of which are red (Datterino, Fiaschetto or Cherry) and one special (Yellow Fiaschetto, Black Cherry, Striped or Golden Nugget); we will divide the varieties into three paper bags of 670 grams each * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2016 * Harvested on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * If you keep them in the fridge, they can last up to 7 days in good condition All varieties can be eaten fresh, as a side dish or in a salad. If, on the other hand, you want to use them cooked to make a sauce or a puree, we especially recommend the two types of fiaschetto. If you don’t want the peel, once cooked it either can be removed with a fork or lightly blended into the cooked tomatoes.

¿Cuándo lo recibes?

We will organise several shipments during the harvest season, which will run from approximately mid-July to September/October. The possibility of extending the season to autumn will depend on the weather conditions. We pick the different varieties at the same time, and we only pick those which are at the optimum point of ripeness for harvesting. Because of this, the availability of each variety will change, that is why we opt for the formula 2 red + 1 special in each box.
