Adopt 5m² of a melon plot from "La Sallentina" in Nardò (Italia) and receive your organic melons at home. Barbara will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

¿Qué adoptas?

You adopt 5m² of a melon plot from our farm in Nardò (Italia). The cultivation here has been certified as organic by the European Union as of 2016. On our farm, we produce two varieties of melons: Gialletto and Galia. Both are part of the Cucumis melo species, an annual climbing or creeping herbaceous plant. It is thought to be a plant native to Asia, which arrived in the Mediterranean thanks to the Egyptians and from there to Italy. Here it quickly spread to many regions, including Puglia, where it found optimal soil and climate conditions. However, some characteristics of the traditional varieties do not match the demands of today's market (e.g. wrinkled skin similar to pumpkin and a low shelf-life). The Galia melon is a variety of Israeli origin, created in 1973 from a cross between a green-fleshed melon and a reticulated-skinned melon. The origin of the Gialletto melon is uncertain. It is thought to be one of the original varieties of melon. We transplant the melons in spring, after carrying out three-year field rotations and after green manuring with legumes and other essences as a 'green' fertiliser, to return the nitrogen used by cultivated plants to the soil. What makes our products special is the flavour. In fact, only when you taste them can you grasp how natural the production was and how full of taste they are which comes from following the rythm of nature, without forcing them. We practise certified organic farming, intervening in the field as little as possible because we trust in the balance that nature itself can re-establish, also because we start from healthy soil. Your melon plot produces an average of 21kg of organic melons each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

¿Qué recibes?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __7kg box of organic melons__ * Gialletto (August - September): oval shape, deep yellow skin when ripe, white flesh, sweet and very juicy flavour * Galia (July - August): round shape, wrinkled skin, flesh tending towards green, sweet and juicy * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2016 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * 1 fruit weighs between 1 and 3 kg (you will receive between 3 and 5 fruits in the box, depending on size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 3 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge)

¿Cuándo lo recibes?

We will harvest and send the melons from the beginning of July to September.
