Adopt un olivo from the farm "Granhota" in Coursan (Francia) and receive your olive products at home. Laurent will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. As the production coming from one olivo is big, the adoption is shared among various people. If you wish to have a bigger share, you may adopt more than once. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you have received your olive products and enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
You adopt un olivo from our farm in Coursan (Francia). Lucca is considered to be the world's best variety of table olive and is a Languedoc speciality. The variety is certainly native to Italy, and Italian immigration established it in the Languedoc region in the late 19th century. Olive trees are planted out, after spending 3 years in the nursery, when they have reached a height of about 1 metre. They are planted in 7m rows, with a 6m gap between each row. This arrangement enables them to develop without impeding the movement of agricultural machinery and ensures accessibility for when harvest takes place. Every year, we make plant compost amendments to provide the nutrients needed for a proper development of the olive trees. The variety is very sensitive and calls for rather tedious picking by hand. It is sensitive to olive pests because of its size and shape. (The *Bactrocera oleae* fly can spot the fruits from far away because of their size). Throughout the year, there are several production stages that must be followed: Planting: The ideal period is between March and April. Olive trees grow on any type of soil. One important point for planting is exposure to light: the seedlings must be in the sun. Pruning: It is carried out in spring and forms an important annual step. It enables parasitic branches to be cut off, so that the sap can spread through the trunk to reach the fruits. Its purpose is also to make it easier for light to penetrate. Harvesting: We pick the olives during the first two weeks in September. It is important to know that, if harvesting takes place late, the olives will continue to ripen and turn into black olives. For these stages, we benefit from the company of Marc Fabre, a long-time friend and colleague, who has built up an enviable expertise in olive cultivation, as well as Julien Dallens, an olive producer who has drawn up exclusive recipes for us, and this is what makes our products so special. Your adoption is 18 years old and its productive life is 1000 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops being able to produce for any reason, we will replace it with an other, and we guarantee your delivery from the produce of others for that season. Your olivo produces an average of 10kg of olives each season. With this amount we can produce around 3kg of olive products. 4 CrowdFarmers will share the adoption, and each one will receive a box containing 0.75kg of olive products.
Each season we will send you a box with: 1 x __Extra virgin olive oil__ (250ml, dark glass bottle) 1 x __Lucca green olive paste__ (90g, glass jar) 1 x__ Lucca olive paste with balsamic vinegar__ (90g, glass jar) 2 x __Lucca olives in vinegar__ (160g drained, glass jar) Our __extra virgin olive oil__ is powerful and fruity. It will go well with all your salads and seasonings. Keep it away from heat and light. Date of minimum durability: 18 months after bottling The __Lucca green olive paste__ is made from crushed Lucca olives and a few spices. The full power of the Lucca olive can be appreciated here, and the olive paste comes in very useful as a spread, as a pie shell or even as a crust for baked fish. Date of minimum durability: 2 months after opening For the __Lucca olive paste with balsamic vinegar__, we grind the Lucca olives, as with the green olive paste. At this stage, we add balsamic vinegar, which will impart a subtlety and roundness in the mouth. It makes an ideal apéritif and can garnish a mixed salad or accompany cheese. Date of minimum durability: 2 months after opening The __Lucca olives in vinegar__ have an instantly recognisable crescent shape. They are very fleshy and very tasty, with their notes of buttered avocado and fresh hazelnuts. Our olives are preserved with white wine vinegar. This method of preservation is not widespread for olives, but it adds freshness to them. They will be slightly candied but will keep the typical crunchiness of the Lucca olive.
