Adopt a kiwi plant from the "Cooperativa I Frutti del Sole" farm in San Calogero (Italia) and receive your organic yellow kiwis at home. Antonio will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

¿Qué adoptas?

You adopt a kiwi plant from our farm in San Calogero (Italia). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2010. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your kiwi plant. The kiwi is a member of the Actinidiaceae family and is native to the Middle East. This plant first spread to China and then to New Zealand. It arrived in Italy in the 1970s, initially in the north, but since it suffers a lot from high humidity and excessive rain, its cultivation has moved to the centre and south for the better climatic conditions here. The kiwi has found optimal conditions for its development especially in Calabria. The Soreli yellow kiwi is an Italian variety selected in 2005. The plant, as in the case of the green kiwi, is a climbing shrub, which needs support structures in order to produce properly. Only the female plants produce fruit, while the male plants only serve for pollination. Our plots are all certified in Organic Farming and also hold the Global Gap certification, which guarantees good agricultural practices, traceability and respect for the environment, including GRASP certification to support our social commitment to workers. Your adoption is 12 years old and its maximum lifespan is 20 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your kiwi plant produces an average of 30kg of organic yellow kiwis each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

¿Qué recibes?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 10 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __3kg box of organic yellow kiwi__ * Soreli: smooth, hairless skin, golden pulp and a sweet, lingering taste, stronger than green-pulp varieties * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2004 * Contrary to other fruits, kiwis cannot be harvested gradually and need to be harvested all at once when having reached their full maturity; in order to avoid food waste and to ensure farmer’s economic stability, they are kept in cold storage, never longer than the current season (maximum of 12 weeks storage) * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 3 and 6 fruits * It is a climacteric fruit which is harvested when it reaches physiological maturity; after being picked from the tree it then continues to ripen until it has reached its optimum point for consumption * Important note: the fruits usually arrive hard; to ripen them, keep them at room temperature until they are ready to eat; if you receive some fruit that is already ripe, you can either eat it right away or keep it in the fridge * To speed up the ripening process, you can put the kiwis in a paper bag with bananas or apples; when the fruit is soft, you can cut it in half and eat it with a teaspoon

¿Cuándo lo recibes?

We harvest the kiwis in October and send them out from the end of October until December.
