Stelios will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

¿Qué adoptas?

You adopt an olive tree from our farm in Plouti (Grecia). The cultivation here has been certified as organic by the European Union as since 2008. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your olive tree. Plouti is a little village in the Cretan mountains, lying 350m above sea level. Plouti is the home to our Koroneiki type olive trees, some of which have stood there over the course of four generations. We are a little family business and even though we all chose different professional paths in life, the love and passion for organic and sustainable olive oil production, as well as the direct contact between CrowdFarmers and farmers, brings us all together. Our olive groves are located in the Messara region, in the Southeast of Crete. Messara is known for its abundant and high quality olive oil production. Consequently, our olive oil holds the protected designation of origin seal as well. Koroneiki olive trees (*Olea Europaea*) just like all types of olive trees belong to the *Oleaceae* family and are a type of olive tree often found in Crete. Koroneiki is perfectly adjusted to the Mediterranean climate, with its immensely hot summers and mild winters. Koroneiki olive trees can thrive even on steep cliffs. Koreiniki has been cultivated in Greece since ancient times. Each Koroneiki olive tree produces a large amount of olives each year. The characteristic gold and green olive oil is considered as one of the best in the world. Of our 1.491 olive trees, some are more than 100 years and the others were planted by our family a few years ago. We make sure to give each tree 7 meters between them and their neighboring tree in order to offer them the best growth options possible. Once every three years we prune our trees to strengthen and keep them neat and healthy. Every year from late October till early December, we keep a close eye on the ripening stage of our olives to identify the best time to harvest. We exclusively harvest manually and during the day. On the same day of harvest, the olives are transferred to local oil mills and fresh olive oil is cold extracted. Apart from olive trees, you can also find sage and other herbs in our fields. Your adoption is 40 years old and its maximum lifespan is 100 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your adoption produces an average of 50kg of organic olives each season. With this amount we can produce around 5l of organic extra virgin olive oil “Plouti” PDO Messara.

¿Qué recibes?

Each season we will send you a box with: 10 x __organic extra virgin olive oil "Plouti" PDO Messara__ (500ml, glass bottles) Our pure olive oil, produced from 100% Koroneiki olives, has a very fine and distinguished taste. At first, a wave of freshness, that reminds us of freshly mowed grass and unripe bananas, takes over, followed by a pleasurably bitter and spicy aftertaste. The Plouti organic olive oil is perfectly suited for vegetables, salads and sauces, red meat and fish but can also be enjoyed pure, on its own. It can also be used for baking, marinating and frying - just let your creativity run free! Some bread, good olive oil and spices make for a simple but very enjoyable meal. Olive oil can generally be stored for a long time, we recommend consuming it within 18 months after the harvest, to get the most out of its freshness and fine aromas. The olive oil can be enjoyed even after these 18 months though. After all, olive oil from Koroneiki olives is known for preserving its taste and aroma for a longer period of time. By filling the olive oil in darker and smaller bottles, we make sure that the quality of the oil remains, safe from light and oxygen and that the oil stays fresh longer. Every Plouti organic olive oil bottle contains the same sense of freshness and indulgence. We recommend storing unopened bottles in dry and dark places. When it comes to opened bottles, keep them in cool areas, away from heat sources and with the lid on. The Plouti organic olive oil is unfiltered. Through the high quality production and filling process we make sure that no solid parts can be found in the olive oil. At a temperature of 7°C or lower, the oil may appear milky. This is a natural reaction. The olive oil returns to its original state once placed at room temperature. The ten bottles make for the perfect opportunity to give the oil to your loved ones as a present and share the joy of fine olive oil.

¿Cuándo lo recibes?

We harvest our olive trees between mid October and early December, each year. During that time, we keep a close eye on the ripening stage of our olives to identify the best time to harvest. Our olives are exclusively harvested manually and during the day. At the end of each day the olives are transferred to local oil mills and fresh olive oil is produced. By cold extracting the olive oil on the same day, we make sure that all valuable nutrients will be passed on into the olive oil and we achieve maximum freshness. After the olive oil is cold extracted, it is left to sit and is filled into bottles and canisters in early spring. It is then sent to our CrowdFarmers in April and May.
