Adopt 40m² of a rice paddy from "Azienda Agricola Stefania Goio" in Rovasenda (Italia) and receive your organic S. Andrea rice at home. Stefania will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt 40m² of a rice paddy from our farm in Rovasenda (Italia). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2015. Rice is a resilient crop, which is sown in May and harvested in October. It is an annual herbaceous plant that grows under almost permanent submerged conditions. This plant is between 80 and 150cm high. The historic villages of Baraggia Vercelle and Biellese have been producing quality rice since the 16th century. Baraggia is a clayey land that makes its very cultivation difficult and tiring, in some respects impossible. But the rice here grows in a way that is found nowhere else in the world. We grow your rice using a sustainable method, that ties in with ancient tradition. We use the old cultivation techniques and the only difference is the use of mechanical equipment to prepare the soil. We also apply the ancient concept of cultural rotation and have eliminated the use of any chemicals. Our method respects the environment and all natural processes, from sowing to packaging. St. Andrea is an autochthonous variety of Baraggia Biellese and Vercellese and takes its name from the ancient abbey of Vercelli St. Andrea. The height of this variety is shorter than Carnaroli and this allows easier cultivation. Each rice paddy produces an average of 2kg of organic S. Andrea rice per season.
Each season we will send you a box with: 2 x__ St. Andrea organic rice__ (1kg each, paper bag) We are absolutely proud to introduce you to one of the premium and most ancient varieties of our beloved region of the Biellese and Vercellese Baraggias: the St. Andrea rice. The grain is medium/large size. Among it's most specific traits are a peculiar texture and an excellent cooking potential, which makes it perfect for both soups and risotti. St. Andrea rice is the best and most original variety of the traditional Risotto alla Vercellese, also known as Panissa. All our packaging is in organic paper and can be 100% recycled. Make sure it's stored in a dry place to avoid moisture, especially once opened. During summer, it can be stored in either your fridge, or freezer.

Harvested in October, the rice is packed in protective atmosphere – we'll be able to ship it you only from Gennaio, in order to take advantage of the colder temperatures during the shipping process and maintain the best quality.
