Adopt a clementine tree from the "Azienda Agricola San Mauro" farm in Corigliano Calabro (Italia) and receive your Demeter organic clementines and organic bergamot oranges at home. Anita will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt a clementine tree from our farm in Corigliano Calabro (Italia). The cultivation is certified as organic by the European Union as of 1992, and as Demeter as of 2011. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your clementine tree. The clementine is a member of the Rutaceae family and a cross between a bitter orange and a mandarin. The plant has a globular shape, dense branches and reaches up to 5 metres in height. The leaves are dark green while the flowers are, typical of citrus fruits, completely white. In Italy they are cultivated throughout southern Italy, but it is in Calabria that they have found their ideal environment. This is why, in 1992, the trademark "Clementine di Calabria IGP" was created to give value to the fruit and the cultivation area. The latter in fact does not include the whole of Calabria, but only some specific areas, including the Sibari plain, where we are located. The Caffin clementine is named after its discoverer, M. Caffin, who discovered this variety in 1968 in Morocco, and from there it soon spread throughout the Mediterranean. It differs from other clementine varieties in that it ripens very early, as early as the first ten days of October. The common clementine originated in Algeria and spread to Italy between 1930 and 1950. Tacle is a cross between the Tarocco orange and the common clementine obtained in Sicily. Tangold is a variety obtained in the United States in 1992 from the mutation of another mandarin variety. With this adoption, you will also receive bergamot oranges of the Fantastico variety, the most widely cultivated variety worldwide. The bergamot orange is a citrus fruit of unknown origin but has found the ideal conditions for its growth on the Calabrian coast. This is why Calabria is the world's largest producer of this citrus fruit, with almost 90% of total production worldwide. Your adoption is 11 years old and its maximum lifespan is 60 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your clementine tree produces an average of 48kg of Demeter organic clementines and organic bergamot oranges each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __6kg box of Demeter organic clementines and organic bergamot oranges__ * Caffin clementine (mid-October to early November): flattened at the ends, slightly rough, orange skin with green apical part, orange flesh, seedless, very juicy and sweet with low acidity * Common clementine (November to December): round fruit with an intense orange colour, it can be easily peeled and divided into segments, the segments are almost completely seedless but due to pollination they might have some seeds, very fragrant and sweet * Tacle (January and February): flattened, seedless, deep orange fruit with a sour aftertaste * Tangold (February): flattened deep orange fruit, almost completely seedless, deep orange flesh with a sour aftertaste * Fantastico bergamot oranges: round fruit slightly elongated at the ends, yellow-green skin, very fragrant, taste similar to lemons but slightly more sour and bitter and much fruitier * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 1992 * Biodynamic farming certified with the Demeter label since 2011 * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * Mixed box with approx. 4.9 kg of clementine and 0.9 kg of bergamot oranges * One kilo of clementines contains between 6 and 11 fruits * One kilo of bergamot oranges contains between 4 and 6 fruits * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last up to 10 days in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge)
