Adopt a citrus tree from the farm "Arancebio" in Francofonte (Italia) and receive your organic citrus fruit marmalade at home. Danilo will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt a citrus tree from our farm in Francofonte (Italia). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2004. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your citrus tree. For your adoption you will be assigned a tree of one of the citrus fruit varieties mentioned below. The type of tree will be based on the farm's availability, but regardless of the type of tree you are assigned, you will receive a box with all the different kinds of marmalade. Blood oranges are one of the most typical citrus fruits of Sicily, as they are indigenous to the island. They grow in a well-defined area, ranging from the Plain of Catania to the slopes of the Hyblaean Mountains. Our blood oranges can be marketed as "Sicilian Blood Orange PGI" because we are part of the committee for the protection of this product. To be part of the committee, the citrus fruit must be grown in Catania, Syracuse or Enna and be subjected to periodic checks by its technicians to verify its quality (external colour, internal colour and degree of sugar). Before the oranges can be harvested, approval is also required from the committee, which verifies that the fruit has the required quality standards. "Moro" oranges result from a mutation of the buds of the "Sanguinella" variety. They have a large amount of anthocyanins that give the juice its typical blood-red colour. "Femminello Siracusano" is a variety that appears as a mutation in normal lemon buds, but it has a higher content of vitamin C and citric acid that gives it a unique flavour and nutritional value. This variety is greatly prized all over the world and is among the most cultivated varieties of lemons in Italy. Its name "femminello" (female) comes from the plant's remarkable fertility. In fact, it produces lemons all year round. The Femminello Siracusano Lemon blooms three times a year: the Bianchetto between April and June with light yellow skin, the Verdello between July and September with light green skin, and the Primofiore between October and March with green or light yellow skin. Naveline oranges trees can grow up to 2–3 metres tall, their leaves are an intense green colour and the trees do not lose them even during the winter. This variety was discovered around 1800 in Brazil. From there, it spread first to the US and then to Europe at the end of the 20th century. The fruits we produce are grown according to the regulations of organic farming and in harmony with our philosophy, that of our region, the protection of the environment and the health of those who eat our fruit. We do not use pesticides. Your adoption is 20 years old and its productive life is 50 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops being able to produce for any reason, we will replace it with an other, and we guarantee your delivery from the produce of others for that season. Your citrus tree produces an average of 5kg of organic citrus fruit each season. With this amount we can produce around 2.1l of organic citrus fruit marmalade.
Each season we will send you a box with: 2 x __organic blood orange marmalade__ (350 g, glass jar) 1 x __organic lemon marmalade__ (350 g, glass jar) 1 x __organic grapefruit marmalade__ (350 g, glass jar) 1 x __organic blonde orange marmalade__ (350 g, glass jar) 1 x __organic blonde orange and lemon marmalade__ (350 g, glass jar) The flavour of the marmalades varies depending on the main fruit in each one. __The blood and blonde orange marmalades__ both have the typical orange flavour. The only difference is in the colour, which tends to red in the blood orange marmalade. __The lemon marmalade__ is slightly sour. __The grapefruit marmalade__ has a bittersweet touch. __The blonde orange and lemon__ blend has a flavour that combines the sweetness of orange and the sourness of lemon. You can use all the flavours of marmalade for breakfast with a slice of bread or as you wish, to make desserts we recommend using the blood orange, blonde orange or mixed marmalades. To make them, we use the fruits that lack to make them, we use the fruits that don't quite make the cut to be sent whole with the shipments of fresh products. By producing these marmalades we significantly reduce fruit waste, since otherwise these fruits would likely go to waste. To produce the marmalades we collaborate with a local organic processing company. We deliver our fruit to them and then they take care of the entire process. The marmalade is made of fruit, cane sugar, and lemon juice, we provide both the fruit and lemons to make the juice while the company buys the cane sugar. We use this sugar because it is the only one that can be used to produce organic processed products, since it is completely natural and does not undergo any purification process. The sealed product can be stored until the expiry date on the jar is reached, this is approximately 2 years from the production date. After opening, it should be stored in the fridge at about 4°C and eaten within 15 days of opening. We prepare the marmalades during the same season as harvesting and shipping the fresh fruit. We use fruits that we can't be used for shipments of whole citrus and this way we limit food waste. We send them in the months after we have finished the main season of shipping fresh products.
