The project

Adopt vines from the farm "Weingut Bastgen" in Osann-Monzel (Germany) and receive your harvest in the form of organic white wine Goldmund and Blauschiefer Riesling PDO Mosel at home. Mona will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption. These wines were tasted by a group of professional wine tasters that collaborate with CrowdFarming, and they received an average score of __82,5__ out of a possible 100.

What do you adopt?

You adopt vines from our farm in Osann-Monzel (Germany). Cultivation certified organic by the European Union since 2011. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your vines. In the steep slate vineyards of the Mosel unique grapes full of minerality can grow. This is the home of Riesling – the queen of grapes - and my home too. I am Mona Bastgen, and together with my husband Armin I have been working in the steep vineyards for almost 30 years now. 4 hands – thousands of vines. We tend to our vines with traditional manual practices, and we are certified organic. Our winery is also part of the prestigious wine auction consortium, Bernkasteler Ring. The continued breeding of indigenous Rhine and Mosel vines over the last 2000 years resulted in the modern Riesling vine. This is why heritage Riesling is perfectly acclimatized to the rough climate in one of the most northern wine growing regions. The vine benefits from the warm microclimate of the steep slopes and the sparse slate soil makes the vines channel all their effort into the grapes. It leads to small, concentrated and well tasting berries. Our vines deeply root into the rough slate soils of the steep slope vineyards. We refrain from using systemic means of plant protection and artificial fertilizer, instead we promote the health of vines and soil with traditional means such as horse manure. Our goal is to support and toughen up the immune system of the plant. Your adoption is 26 years old and its productive life is around 70 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others.

What will you receive?

Each season we will send you a box with: 3 x __Goldmund Riesling organic white wine 2021, PDO Mosel__ (0.75l, bottle) 3 x __Blauschiefer Riesling organic white wine 2021, PDO Mosel__ (0.75l, bottle) Your harvest box from the Mosel contains 3 bottles of our Rieslings “Goldmund” and “Blauschiefer” each. In our “Goldmund” the fruity components of the Riesling variety are pronounced while “Blauschiefer” puts the dry slate minerality into focus. These two wines deeply entail our winemaking philosophy and the essence of the Mosel. __Goldmund:__ Tasting Notes: The nose features animating, spicy Riesling fruit, white peach, and cassis aromas. On the pallet a lively acidity elegantly balances out the fruit. A light wine that gets better with every sip. Vinification: Only 100% healthy grapes that passed through a manual pre selection process in the vineyard make the cut. After the manual harvest the grapes are pressed directly and enter a cold fermentation immediately after the sedimentations of bigger particles in the must has occurred. The young wine stays on the lees for 6 months and after passing through a diatomaceous earth filter it is bottled. The screw cap conserves the clear and fresh Riesling fruit. Food Pairing: Enjoy Goldmund alongside spicy Asian cuisine or salty pastries and cheeses. __Blauschiefer: __ Tasting Notes: A dry wine, pristine, characterized by the slate soil. With fine and elegant yellow fruit. Soft but long lasting on the pallet, with a mineral finish. Vinification: Only 100% healthy grapes that passed through a manual preselection process in the vineyard make the cut. After the manual harvest the grapes are pressed directly and enter a cold fermentation immediately after the sedimentations of bigger particles in the must has occurred. The young wine stays on the lees for 6 months and is bottled after passing through a diatomaceous earth filter. The screw cap conserves the clear and fresh Riesling fruit. Food Pairing: A dry Mosel classic. Can be enjoyed solo, casually with cheeses and crackers or to accompany fish, meat, and intense vegetable dishes with great versatility. __For both wines:__ Closure System: Screw Cap Storage: The wines are ready to be enjoyed but can only gain in quality with a gentle storage for 1-3 years… if you have the patience. Both Goldmund and Blauschiefer offer a wide range of aromatic nuances: Green apple, citrus, grapefruit, accompanied by aromas of fresh herbs and the minerality of the slate soil. Every vintage brings new characteristics to light. Fine, structured and long lasting – this is the style you can expect from our wines. To obtain the technical data and the detailed results of the official tasting done by professional wine tasters in collaboration with CrowdFarming of this wine you can download the technical data sheet that you can find when clicking on the "Additional analyses" seal. Given that the wines are analysed as they are bottled, bear in mind that the technical data sheet may correspond to the vintage of the previous year and not to the wine you will receive.

When will you receive it?

The 2021 vintage will be harvested at the end of September and will arrive at your doorstep at the end of May 2022.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
