What do you adopt?

You adopt vines from our farm in Alacalá la Real (Spain). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union since 2019. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your vines. Our Graciano, Merlot and Syrah grape varieties are grown in a region with a time-honoured wine-growing tradition. These grapevines have adapted to the dry continental climate of Jaén, with its poor sandy loam, loose, deep, gravelly, alkaline and slightly clayey soil. We chose these varieties after testing more than 30 different varieties over more than 25 years. These grapes adapted best to our farm, and offered the best results for the type of wine we wanted to produce. Graciano is a Spanish variety that produces a low yield, so it has to be grown together with other varieties. It blends well with other grapes, giving off distinct fruity aromas, and is considered a flagship Spanish red wine grape. The other variety we grow is Syrah or Shiraz, the precise origin of which is uncertain, although it was first introduced and grown in the Rhône Valley. It's easy to grow and adapts very well to the extreme environment of our area, which receives many hours of sun and heat, and when blended with other grapes, it improves the structure of the wines. The Merlot variety is the final in our vineyard. Originally from France, it is characterised by its early ripening, making it ideal for young wines like ours. We make our wines in accordance with European regulations on Organic Farming, using vines that grow on trellises with a yield of 2,500 bottles per hectare. This is done in the family winery, which has been the workplace of father and daughter since 2002. We are devoted to working in our vineyards together every day of the year to produce wines that represent our land, as cold as it is hot, whose poor soils offer character to its wines. Our goal is to regain the former splendour of Alcalá la Real wine, which has a centuries-old winemaking tradition. Your adoption is 5 years old and its productive life is around 30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your vines produce an average of 6.5kg of organic grapes each season. With this amount we can produce around 2.25l of organic young red wine "Marcelino Serrano, 60 años menos".

What will you receive?

Each season we will send you a box with: 3 x__ organic young red wine "Marcelino Serrano, 60 años menos", 2019__ (0.75l, bottle) __Wine-making process:__ Monovarietal young red wine made from 100% Graciano grapes, carefully handpicked at the optimal moment of ripeness. The skin and seeds are left during fermentation and maceration, which takes place at a controlled temperature of 24°C. The wine is devatted before the fermentation has completed, and is then soft-pressed in a pneumatic press. It finishes fermenting in a stainless steel tank. __Taste__: Visually, it has a very intense bright red colour with violet hues; on the nose it is intensely aromatic, with spiced, balsamic notes and hints of unripe berries; while on the palate it is fresh and fruity. A long, full-flavoured, yet silky wine, with aromas of fresh fruit and bitter almonds, and a high aromatic persistence, without being harsh although it hints a slight astringency. __Pairing__: This wine is ideal with pâté, poultry and game, such as chicken, turkey and partridge as well as salad. __Bottle closure__: Natural cork. __Conservation/Storage__: Store the bottle upright, away from light if possible and at 16°C. This is an evolving wine, which will gain smoothness and aromatic nuances over the 3 years of its shelf life. Now, the wine is still very young; fresh, with a slight astringency — which is forgivable, for this wine expresses the identity of a Mediterranean climate terroir. To obtain the technical data and the detailed results of the official tasting done by professional wine tasters in collaboration with CrowdFarming of this wine you can download the technical data sheet that you can find in the "Additional analyses" section.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
