goat cheese
Vega de San Martín
You are too late to adopt a goat from this Farmer. Check out the other projects.

The project

Adopt {publicVariety} of our flock "{farmName}" in {cityfarm} ({countryFarm}) and receive your harvest in the form of {production} at home. The Farmer {farmerName} will take care for your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. As the production coming from one {variety} is big, the adoption is shared among various people. If you wish to have a bigger share, you may adopt more than once. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

What do you adopt?
The Murciano-Granadina breed has always held a prominent position within Spanish goat farming. This milk has a higher than average amount of fat and protein, which makes it especially suitable for making cheese with excellent flavour and texture. For more than 30 years we have been breeding and selecting the best animals of this breed, so we get the best quality, as we take special care of their environment, feeding, handling and milking. Each {variety} produces an average of 250 liters of milk each season. With this amount we can produce around 24 kg of {production}. Each {variety} is adopted by 8 CrowdFarmers who receive a box with {masterUnitsMax}kg of {production}.
What will you receive?
The box we will send you contains: 1 x soft cheese (piece of 1kg vacuum-packed). Handmade cheese made with pasteurized milk from our goats, with creamy texture and soft in the mouth. Clean and soft smell, with notes of sweet cream and yoghurt. 1 x semi-cured cheese (1 kg piece wrapped in paper). Pressed cheese made with raw milk from our goats, natural rind. Smell of medium intensity, lactic notes at the beginning, an elegant acidity, with notes of sweet cereal and ripe olive. 1 x cured cheese (1 kg piece wrapped in paper). Pressed cheese made with raw milk from our goats, natural rind with mould. Intense smell, fruity and vegetable notes. Firm, somewhat elastic texture with good butteriness.
When will you receive it?
Please, check the deadline for participating in this project (deadline for adoption) below. As of this date the Farmer will start preparing the orders that are to be shipped. You may select the delivery date of your box as suggested by the Farmer at check-out.
Why should you adopt?
* Learn who produces your food, how and where. Receive your food in a conscious manner. * Buy directly from the farmer. Help to generate wealth and better jobs in the rural areas. * Plan ahead and enable the Farmer to produce on demand. This way we can avoid overproduction and fight food waste. * Reward Farmers who make an effort to use environmentally-friendly packaging and cultivation techniques.

We are the fifth generation of a family with an extensive tradition in agriculture and livestock. In Vega de San Martín we are 3 brothers who continue with the agriculture and livestock but 7 years ago we began to make cheeses and other dairy products. It is the continuity to the project that our family started a year ago when they were made in their own house. The nice thing about this project is to see how you cultivate to feed the livestock and the end result is the cheeses. We don't just think about making cheeses, we think about sowing the best raw materials so that they become cheese.

Our artisan cheese factory is located in the heart of the Jarama plain, integrated within the land where our goats graze and 35 km from the centre of Madrid. In addition to the 40 hectares of meadows for daily grazing we have more than 450 hectares divided into two farms and dedicated to the cultivation of cereal, corn and alfalfa, which is the main basis of their nutrition. In this way, we keep a strict control of the quality of the animal feed. We try to make the most of the farm's resources, placing special emphasis on soil fertility and natural fertilizer. Since 1985 we have been breeding and selecting the best Murciano-Granadina goats, so we take special care of their environment, feeding, handling and milking, placing special emphasis on hygiene and sanitary control. The animals go out to graze daily, which gives the milk a characteristic aroma. Likewise, the handling and milking of the animals is carried out respecting the maximum guarantees of hygiene and animal welfare. We have facilities that allow the milk to pass directly from the udder to the cheese factory, thus preserving all its organoleptic properties intact and avoiding any type of external contamination. Thanks to the special care and attention we give to our animals, our livestock has obtained the highest health rating, being free of brucellosis and tuberculosis. This way of working allows us to work with raw milk to make our cheeses.
