The project

Adopt a lychee tree from the farm "Rancho del Tio Esteban" in Vélez-Málaga (Spain) and receive your organic lychee at home. Esteban will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt a lychee tree from our farm in Vélez-Málaga (Spain). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2018. The lychee (*Litchi chinensis*) is a plant native to southern China that grows in subtropical climates. It's a medium-sized tree with perennial leaves and can reach several metres in height. In Europe, the lychee isn't common. The south of Andalusia is on the edge of its cultivation area, and if a winter is harsh, the trees suffer a lot and can even die. After trying many varieties to select which ones best suit our area, we chose two: the Pink kwai mi and the Wai chi. We have fewer of the Wai Chi as it has a lower productivity, but we introduced it to diversify the crop and also because we loved the flavour. The plot where the lychees are grown was abandoned, with the remains of almond and olive groves. There was a farmhouse on the farm too, which was restored and has been my home ever since. In addition to the lychee and avocado crops, there's a vegetable garden for the family. We decided to plant organically from the beginning and chose the lychees for a very simple reason: we love them! When harvest time comes around, a lot of us family members get together and eat as much as we pick. Harvesting is entirely by hand. It's great to share this pleasure with other people. Your adoption is 6 years old and its maximum lifespan is 25 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your lychee tree produces an average of 1.5kg of organic lychee each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

What will you receive?

You can reserve between 0 and 0 boxes for the season, and then plan the deliveries for any of the delivery dates available in the shipment calendar. Shipping format: __1,5 kg box of organic lychee__ * __Pink kwai mi __(August): orange or reddish skin, hard, rough and with small bumps; small round fruit, sweet taste with a hint of acid, white pulp with a small stone * __Wai chi__ (August): reddish or purple skin, hard, rough and with small bumps; small, round fruit, sweet taste with a hint of sour, white pulp with a small stone * You will receive a mixed box with both varieties * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2018 * We do not store fruits in cold chambers, they go directly from the tree to your doorstep * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 40 and 60 fruits * If you keep them in the fridge, they can last up to 7-10 days in good condition It is necessary to peel this fruit to eat it, at the beginning the rind is flexible, as the days go by it can become harder, don't worry, the pulp inside should be in perfect condition.

When will you receive it?

The lychee ripens in the summer sun. The fruit is ready to be harvested in August for only two or three weeks.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
