The project

Adopt an olive tree from the "Terradiva" farm in Minervino Murge (Italy) and receive your Murgia box at home. Vincenzo will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt an olive tree from our farm in Minervino Murge (Italy). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 1998. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your olive tree. The older olive trees on our farm (between 70 and 80 years old) are mainly of a very typical variety of Puglia: the Coratina. We do not call them "old" because the olive tree is an extraordinary plant, which can live for centuries. Coratina olive trees are very resistant and adapt to a large variety of soils, including ours, which are stony and calcareous. The origin of the name of this variety derives from a small town in the area called "Corato". Curiously, our grandfather was also called, in our local dialect, "il coratino" precisely because he moved from that city to our town as an olive tree pruner. We take care of our trees one by one, and we plant them in the traditional way, with about 7 meters of distance between them. We have been cultivating olive trees under the organic farming certification for more than twenty years. It was our father who made this decision in 1998 when organic farming was known to very few people. We keep up with the trees throughout the year, from pruning to their nourishment with substances permitted by organic farming, to the semi-mechanised olive harvest, to processing in the mill. Harvesting only takes place during the day, to safeguard the birds that rest in our trees during the night. Terradiva is our way of restoring a little beauty and dignity to the world of agriculture. The Terradiva brand was founded in 2015 by my sister Angela and I. Today, in Terradiva there is our whole family, it is a small business, so our products are handcrafted, they are packaged and labeled one by one by hand. As a younger generation, we are committed to combining family experience with our training and contemporary vision of a family-run organic farm, focused on sustainability and the care of our territory. By adopting one of our olive trees, you will receive a box that we have created with the desire to represent our territory and our farm. Inside you will find oil and almonds that we have always grown on the farm, and taralli, the emblem of Apulian tradition, but made in our own way, since the ingredients include our own oil and almond flour. Your adoption is 50 years old and its maximum lifespan is 200 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units.

What will you receive?

Each season we will send you a box with: 1 x __organic extra virgin Allegro olive oil__ (500ml, bottle) 1 x __organic shelled almonds__ (250g, biodegradable bag) 1 x __taralli with organic almond flour__ (200g, plastic bag) The three products will arrive inside a gift box that we have dedicated to our territory: the Murgia. We are in southern Italy, in Apulia, and our olive and almond trees are surrounded by the Alta Murgia National Park, an area that is still little known but has a special landscape of rolling hills, stone walls, caves and castles. The __organic extra virgin Allegro olive oil__ contains olives of a single variety, the Coratina, typical of our area. It is an intense oil with a structured flavour, the scent of freshly cut grass, almond, tomato and artichoke, with notes of bitterness and spiciness on the palate. This oil goes very well with legume dishes, vegetable soups, red meat but also bruschetta and raw vegetables. We recommend using the oil as raw as possible to preserve the organoleptic characteristics and polyphenols present. The oil has a shelf life of 18 months. For optimal conservation keep the bottle away from light and heat sources, in a cool, dry place. __The almonds__ are of two typical Apulian varieties: Genco and Filippo Cea; the names derive from our illustrious countrymen who skilfully selected these seeds from the late 1950s onwards. The Filippo Cea almond is smaller than the Genco, and often has a twin seedling, i.e. in the same shell we find two almonds that seem to be embraced together. Its taste is sweet, delicate, buttery. The Genco almond is larger, with an intense, aromatic and persistent flavour, tasting it you will sense slight notes of bitterness. Our advice is to enjoy them in various ways: au naturel as a snack during breaks at work, roasted in the oven with spices, in biscuits, in sweet and savoury pies, in salads, as breadcrumbs for meat and fish, with soft cheeses. Almonds can be stored for 12 months after shelling. We carry out periodic shelling precisely to offer a fresher and crisper fruit. Ours is a 100% artisanal production, the almonds are carefully selected by hand, then packed in a cellulose pulp bag (biodegradable and compostable) and labelled by hand. For good storage, we recommend storing the almonds in an airtight glass jar, away from heat sources, in a cool, dry place. At high temperatures (above 24 degrees) we recommend storing them in the refrigerator. With our organic __taralli__, we have revisited the traditional Apulian savoury snack recipe, enriching it with almond flour and using only extra virgin olive oil. Taralli are never missing from an Apulian's bag or table, as they are ideal as a snack, in aperitifs and as bread substitutes to accompany meat, cheese and vegetables. Taralli have a shelf life of 6 months. For optimal preservation, we suggest that once the bag is open, always close it carefully or store the taralli in an airtight container in a dry place to preserve the crunchiness and fragrance of the product. The ingredient list as well as allergen information can be downloaded from "Additional Analysis".

When will you receive it?

You will receive the Murgia box in December, in time to use it as a gift for friends and family or to share the products inside during the upcoming holidays. The almond harvest takes place in September and the olive harvest in November, so you can taste the products of the new harvest. Our taralli are produced at regular intervals and you will receive the ones that are baked just a few days before dispatch.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
