The project

Adopt an apple tree from the "Saint Félix" farm in Cavaillon (France) and receive your Demeter organic apples at home. Michel will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt an apple tree from our farm in Cavaillon (France). The cultivation is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2016, and as Demeter as of 2021. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your apple tree. You will adopt an apple tree of the Crimson Crisp variety. This recent variety was born in the United States from a cross between two hybrids. The colour of its fruit is dark red and very glossy, which is what makes it unique. We offer this variety because it is particularly resistant to diseases, especially scab, a common disease in fruit trees due to fungi that affect the leaves and fruits. We have been growing this variety in our orchards in the South of France, in Cavaillon, since 2017. The sunshine of the area promotes flowering and apple production. We treat our apple trees with horn dung, which is a preparation used in biodynamics: it facilitates microbial activity, humus formation and pH regulation, among other benefits. To provide them with the necessary water, we use gravity watering, which consists of flooding the soil to a shallow depth approximately every 15 days during the dry period, which we supplement with drip irrigation and sprinkling. The freshness at the feet of the trees is preserved by the grass that we cut at the time of harvest. When we have to perform maintenance on our trees, for example during thinning, we flatten the grass so that the life there remains sheltered. For the rest of the year, the grass grows and contains a wide variety of fauna and flora that form an excellent ecosystem. We practice natural sodding. Your apple tree will be surrounded by others: on one hectare about 2,000 apple trees are cultivated, and on the same plot of land several varieties are present, all of which are suitable for organic cultivation. They are all more resistant to disease and shock. The harvest can thus be spread over the course of 4 to 5 months. This mixture of varieties also has the advantage of promoting pollination. Alongside the natural action of the wind, this stage is also helped by the bees because we have installed about thirty hives in the middle of the fruit trees. Depending on the date of shipment, you will receive either Crimson Crisp apples, Akane apples, Elstar apples, Story apples or Delisdor apples. We are aware of the impact of production systems on our environment. This is why, in addition to having organic and Demeter certifications, we have also obtained the HVE3 and GlobalGap labels. Your adoption is 12 years old and its maximum lifespan is 25 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your apple tree produces an average of 24kg of Demeter organic apples each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 boxes. Once you paid the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __4kg box Demeter organic apples__ * Variety: Akane, Elstar, Crimson Crips, Story, Delisdor * Red, orange, yellow, or white in colour... apples of different sizes, beautiful and imperfect, for eating, baking or preserving * Depending on the month, we harvest the varieties that we find to be at their optimum point of ripeness; please find the variety descriptions and their respective shipping period in "Additional Analysis" * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2016 and biodynamic farming certified by the Demeter label since 2021 * The fruits are harvested when having reached their full maturity, as they cannot be harvested gradually though, we store the fruit in cold storage and send it to you little by little * Shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 7 and 8 fruits (the box contains between 25 and 30 fruits depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last up to 2-3 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * It is a climacteric fruit, harvested when it reaches physiological ripeness but continues to evolve after harvesting until it is ready for consumption The variety of apples you will receive will be indicated in a letter inserted in your box.

When will you receive it?

Depending on the chosen shipping dates, you will receive one of the following apple varieties: Akane (August-September), Elstar (September-October), Crimson Crisp (October-November), Story (October-May), Delisdor (November-May).

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
