Patrick Berghman
I travelled between Congo (where I was born), Belgium (my origins) and Corsica where I attended school in Bastia. Harvesting, drilling and coffee cultivation in Congo marked my first experiences in the agricultural world.
Back from Africa, when it was time for my father to retire, I took over the family business in 1983. Seven years later, I sought a solution to revitalize this farm in financial difficulty and was one of the very first to grasp the shift to organic farming in 1990. Organic farming seemed the obvious choice for me. Now, I am vice-president of the Inter Bio Corse association whose main role is to develop organic farming on the island l'île de Beauté. Today, I am a fervent and optimistic defender of the vision of agriculture of the future on a daily basis.
Puntimoso
Puntimoso farm in San Nicolao, in the north-eastern part of Corsica, about 50 kilometres south of Bastia, represents 38 hectares of organic farming. Of these, 15 hectares are clementines, 12 kiwi, 2 lemons, 1 pomelo, 1 Lime and 7 diversified orchards (bitter and sweet orange, kumquats, avocado and hazelnut). Our orchards are ideally located on the eastern plain (east coast) to benefit from the best climate and offer excellent quality fruit.
All our production is conducted in an environmentally friendly manner and certified according to the Organic Farming requirements. Our orchards benefit from a microclimate and an exceptional environment, between the sea and the mountains, giving the fruit a particular flavour. We have also chosen to apply for the PGI label for the clementines and pomelos to make them quality products. In addition, we aim to diversify our crops with plantations of oranges, cumbava, yuzu and to increase our production of lemons and limes.
For more than 27 years, all our lands and orchards, as well as the entire environment of the farm, including the storage and packaging areas, have complied with all the controls imposed by the Organic Farming regulations. All certificates are renewed annually, in addition to all analyses and checks of control points such as samples for the absence of prohibited products.
In addition, to guarantee the best quality, we are audited each year by accredited entities (Certipaq, Ecocert, Bureau Veritas Certification).
We are strongly committed and proud of it!
