The project

Adopt 125m² of an asparagus field from "Prima Bio" in Rignano Garganico (Italy) and receive your organic green asparagus at home. Maria Luisa will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you have received your organic green asparagus and enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

What do you adopt?

You adopt 125m² of an asparagus field from our farm in Rignano Garganico (Italy). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union since 1998. Asparagus originated in ancient Mesopotamia over 2000 years ago and spread from there to Egypt and throughout the Mediterranean. Its name comes from the Greek word “aspharagos”, meaning stalk. Depending on the variety, they come out green (the sun-kissed ones), white (possibly with a slightly pinkish tip), or purple. Unlike most vegetables, asparagus plants can produce up to 10 years after planting, if the climate and growing conditions are right. Asparagus can be grown from seed or crowns. Starting from seed is cheaper initially, but it takes longer, whereas from the crown the plant starts to produce within a couple of years, although the initial investment is higher. We decided to start directly from the crown in order to focus directly on the production phase of the plant. The Vegalim is an early variety of Dutch origin. It produces green-coloured shoots and is very well adapted to areas with a warm climate, such as Apulia. Your asparagus field produces an average of 10kg of organic green asparagus each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve at the moment of adoption. You will be able to receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 5 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __2kg box of organic green asparagus__ * Vegalim: green asparagus, smooth, cylindrical stalks with a perfectly closed tip, about 18cm long and usually about 1cm in diameter * Sweet and delicate in flavour, they hold up well to cooking and are excellent for frying, baking, boiling or steaming * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 1998 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * One kilo contains between 15 and 20 pieces (the box contains between 30 and 40 pieces depending on the size) * If you keep them in the fridge, they can last up to 10 days in good condition

When will you receive it?

Asparagus produces shoots in spring, so we send them between April and May.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
