The project

Adopt a tomato field from the farm "Prima Bio" in Rignano Garganico (Italy) and receive your harvest in the form of organic tomato sauce at home. The Farmer Maria Luisa will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

What do you adopt?

You adopt a tomato field from our farm in Rignano Garganico (Italy). Cultivation certified organic by the European Union since 1998. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your tomato field. On your adopted tomato field, there are 4 tomato plants of the varieties Delfo or Taylor. Our tomatoes are chosen on the basis of taste and intended use! In fact, for making organic sauce, the Delfo and Taylor tomatoes are well-suited. They are two new varieties used for the production of tomatoes destined for further processing. We use these tomato varieties because of the characteristics of their skin and pulp. The slightly acidic taste and the thick sauce they produce have made them world-famous as sauce tomatoes. With these varieties it is essential to remove the side shoots. This process is called 'sprouting' and is necessary to have the right balance in the plant between the vegetative part and the amount of fruit produced. There is also a dwarf version of both varieties, with a smaller plant, which does not require a stake or cutting. With this adoption you are supporting an organic, eco-sustainable and ethical supply chain. In fact Prima Bio is a company of innovation in tradition, combining awareness and daily participation in the entire agricultural process, always respecting the environment. We sow, grow and process all our products in our own certified organic plant, just a few kilometres from the production area.

What will you receive?

We will send you the box you have chosen in the adoption process. __Big box__ 6 x __tomato sauce__ (0.7l bottle) __Small box__ 6 x __tomato sauce__ (0.42l bottle) This tomato sauce is a dense 100% organic sauce obtained traditionally by growing and harvesting tomatoes by hand on our fields and processing them within 5 hours. The tomatoes we use are of the Delfo and Taylor varieties which are fragrant, bright red in colour and with a slightly acidic taste. You can use the sauce to season a pasta or rice dish or in your egg or vegetable dishes. We suggest you cook it for a few minutes in a pan, adding a few drops of extra virgin olive oil and, if you like, a few leaves of basil. You can store the product for up to 18 months from the moment you receive it. However, it is important to store it in a cool, dry place. Once the jar has been opened, it should be kept tightly closed in the fridge (it would be best at around 4ºC) and consumed within a maximum of 3 days. When will you receive it?

You will receive your harvest box in the second half of November. We harvest our tomatoes between August and September. Harvesting is done by hand when each individual tomato is fully ripe. We process the tomatoes on the same day of the harvest and store the ready sauce in our warehouses.
