Adopt vines from our farm in Ayegui (Spain). During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your vines. You will adopt 3 vines from our vineyard. When we planted our vineyard in 2001, we chose the varieties and clones better suited the continental climate of the Navarra region and our poor, stony soils. We have vines of Tempranillo, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. We decided to produce blended vines (cuvée), where we combine the different varieties to make elegant and rounded red wines, the kind you want to have a second glass of. The vines are spread over a beautiful vineyard of only 17 hectares, on a single plot, at the foot of the Monastery of Irache, from the XI Century. The monks of this monastery used to grow vines to produce their wines many centuries ago and chose this same location for their vineyard, sheltered by a century-old stone wall. The wine cellar is next to the vineyard, which allows us to start the process only a few hours after the grapes are harvested. As our great-great-grandfather used to do, we hand-pick the grapes in small cases, discarding in the vineyard those bunches which are not in the best condition. However, the well applied technology has helped us to better understand our plants and give them what they really need. We use the information from a weather station to forecast possible events that alter our vineyard and we measure the growth of the plants with the help of different sensors. From time to time we take satellite pictures, where we can identify the nutrients in the different layers of our soils and feed and treat the areas individually. We combine tradition and innovation to achieve the best results in our work. We carry out a double selection in the field and in the winery so that only the best grapes become part of our wines. We make them in a traditional way, in small productions, and the wines we offer always mature in French oak barrels before we decide the optimal moment for bottling. Our wines have been awarded at the most renowned international competitions, such as Mundus Vini or the Berliner Wein Trophy in Germany, International Wine Challenge and Decanter in the UK, Gilbert & Gaillard and Citadelles du Vin in France, Sakura in Japan or Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in Belgium, to mention a few. The productive life of vines is around 50 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your vines die, we will replace them with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from others.
Each season we will send you a box with: 3 x __Red wine PDO Navarra Pago de Larrainzar Owner's Collection Reserva especial__ (bottle of 75 CL) 3 x __Red wine PDO Navarra Pago de Larrainzar Farmer's Selection Reserva__ (bottle of 75 CL) About these two wines: __Red wine PDO Navarra Pago de Larrainzar Owner's Collection Reserva especial (bottle of 75 CL)__ We launched this wine at the end of 2020, after confirming that it is at its best to be enjoyed. This is the wine my father prefers, because it is made in a more traditional way. It’s one of those reds that improve significantly in the bottle, that are long and very elegant. It will be part of the family selection, so that in many years our children will uncork a bottle and remember the love that their elders put into this product. For this red wine we have used 40% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. We also included a 20% Tempranillo, the most traditional grape in Spain, selected from the best areas of our vineyard to give its freshness to the wine. The 2014 harvest began on October 7 and ended with the picking of the Cabernet on October 23. All harvesting was done by hand and all bunches that showed a lack or excess of ripeness were discarded. After fermentation, in which we used the selected yeasts from our vineyard, the wine rested in French oak barrels for 14 months at controlled temperature and humidity. Each grape variety and plot was processed separately, and only at the end the blends were decided in order to make the final wine, better than each of the wines that compose it. We used 225L and 300L oak barrels. After its aging, the wine was bottled using high quality natural cork, which is the most ecological closure and ensures its best evolution while in the bottle. The wine fulfills the regulations of the DOP Navarra Control Board and it is certified as a Reserva. When tasting, you will find notes of black plum, berries, cedar, scrubland, dry hay...each turn of the glass reveals a new aroma. It is a wine that shows the winery's style: complexity and elegance. Tasty, fresh, without edges, it fills the mouth but it is not a heavy wine at all. It is very well polished and leaves a long aftertaste. __Red wine PDO Navarra Pago de Larrainzar Farmer's Selection Reserva (bottle of 75 CL)__ This is the wine that I choose to offer you, because it is a more modern line, showing more fruity notes and less barrel ones. It will not be as long-lasting as its partner Reserva Especial, but it is perfect for those who want to enjoy a lighter Reserva wine for all occasions. It has been made using the 4 varieties from our vineyard, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Garnacha, with a larger proportion of our local Tempranillo grape. This blend is only possible in this region, since we have the ideal climate and soils for all of these varieties. Hence its uniqueness, if we compare it with other wines from around the world. In this case, the harvest began on October 21 and finished a week later. The different grape varieties and plots were vinified and aged separately for 12 months. Only then we decided on the final blend, always looking for the highlight of the fruit in balance with the toasted notes. On the nose we can recognize notes of red fruits and hints of vanilla, coconut and toasted oak. On the palate it is balanced, long and persistent, with a well-defined acidity and a fresh aftertaste. An easy to drink wine, with a medium body, very fluid and very pleasant. Perfect to drink right away. To store our wines in the best conditions, we recommend placing the bottles horizontally so that the wine is in permanent contact with the cork. Keep them at a relatively regular temperature, without sudden changes between 16 and 18ºC approximately. The humidity, on the other hand, should oscillate between 60 and 80%. These conditions usually exist naturally in basements or cellars, but it is possible to improve them by using ventilation or air conditioners. Please avoid intense vibrations and strong odors. Our wines are good for long term storage, having a good structure, high acidity and with an aging process in barrels, which makes them very long lasting. However, wines are live products, so they continue to evolve and show new nuances as time goes by, increasing their fineness, decreasing their fruity notes and with changes in the color, which goes on to more orange ranges. The Owner's Collection Reserva Especial wine can be kept in excellent condition until around the year 2030. For Farmer's Selection Reserva wine, we recommend drinking it within two or three years. These wines are very versatile for food pairing. They are perfect with oily fish, such as tuna, salmon or cod. With regards to meat, the best choice is lamb and red meat: grilled, hamburger, roast beef or carpaccio, and also stews seasoned with herbs or mushrooms. We also suggest tasting them with game dishes, such as duck and rabbit. They are also very suitable with Manchego, Brie, Blue or Cheddar cheeses.
