The project

Adopt a clementine tree from the farm "Oroverde" in Lentini (Italy) and receive your harvest in the form of organic clementines at home. Chiara will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

What do you adopt?

You adopt a clementine tree from our farm in Lentini (Italy). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union since 2014. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your clementine tree. Our company is a family business, handed down from grandparents to grandchildren who now run the company. The Nova clementine trees we have on our farm are very similar to those of the mandarin. They differ slightly in that the leaves of the Nova clementine are larger and wider and do not have the characteristic aroma of the mandarin. It flowers and fruits slowly and irregularly, as it is very susceptible to changes in temperature. There is only one annual harvest between November and January. The most obvious differences with the mandarin are in the colour of the pulp, which is decidedly more orange. The Clementino Nova is a cross between the Tangelo Orlando and the common Clementine obtained in the USA in the mid 1900s. This variety is characterised by late ripening, high productivity and the plant's ability to keep the fruit on the tree for weeks after ripening. Your adoption is 31 years old and its productive life is around 50 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your clementine tree produces an average of 25kg of organic clementines each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve at the moment of adoption. You will be able to receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 5 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __5 kg box of organic clementines__ * Nova clementine: thin, deep orange skin, easy to peel by hand, flattened shape, may have few seeds, slightly acidic taste * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2014 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * We do not store the fruit in cold chambers, they go directly from the tree to your doorstep * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 8 and 10 fruits (the box contains between 40 and 50 fruits depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 3 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) Nova clementines have a fairly homogeneous size. Within the box you will find various sizes of clementines. The smaller fruits are suitable for juices or for the preparation of jams while the larger ones are excellent to taste fresh. Being an organic product, the peel can be used to aromatize salty and sweet dishes, it is also possible to dry or use them for candied fruit. Its difference to mandarins is that the fruits are never flattened, but always well rounded. Like the mandarin, it is easy to peel and divided into wedges. The taste is more like an orange, with a perfect balance of sweet and sour. In addition, unlike the mandarin, clementine segments are almost completely seedless. The clementine is mainly eaten as a fresh fruit because it has all the properties of citrus fruits, including a high vitamin C content.

When will you receive it?

We will send the Nova from December to February.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
