Adopt a walnut tree from the farm "Nouca" in Golmés (Spain) and receive your harvest in the form of walnuts (peeled) at home. Iván will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
You adopt a walnut tree cultivated under the European Union's Organic Farming regulations. We are in the process of converting and hope to get certified in 2022. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your walnut tree. *Juglans Regia*, or the Common Walnut, is a deciduous tree with oval-round leaves, which is always alternately arranged. Regia means royal or magnificent, so the name aptly describes a tree that reaches 25-30 metres in height and has a broad crown. The walnut tree is famous across the world for its excellent nuts, its wood and for its shade in the summer! It's native to Southeast Asia and the Greeks are said to have brought it over to the West in the third century BC, christening its fruit as the Persian walnut. Years later, the Romans spread its cultivation throughout the Mediterranean, with it ultimately reaching the Iberian Peninsula. Our fields are mostly planted with walnut trees of the Chandler variety, with an average age of seven years. Native to California, the Chandler is a moderately vigorous, semi-upright and highly productive tree that produces nuts of an excellent quality, which has made it one of the most cultivated varieties in the whole world. Nouca is gradually growing as a farm and each year we increase the cultivated area and number of trees. We base the organic management of the farm on the prevention of pests, deficiencies and diseases. Meanwhile, we take advantage of the manure from nearby organic farms, and we always avoid the use of synthetic chemical fertilisers and pesticides. We use water responsibly by applying technology to our crops. And we like to have a living soil full of beneficial microorganisms to which we add all our plant-based waste. The productive life of a walnut tree is around 30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your walnut tree dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Each walnut tree bears an average of 2.5kg of walnuts (peeled) per season.
Each season we will send you a box with: __5 x peeled walnuts (500g protective atmosphere packaging)__ These Chandler walnuts are round with a brown and quite rough shell, finer than that of other varieties, which makes it easier to peel them. Inside it contains a spectacular white and sweet-flavoured kernel (covered by a thin brown skin). In each bag you'll find approximately 250g of walnut halves, 200g of walnut quarters and 50g of smaller pieces. Our walnuts are characterised by their white kernel and their exceptional sweet Mediterranean flavour. We wash our walnuts only with water and dry them using biofuel, resulting in a nut that preserves all its nutritional properties. Drying is one of the most critical points in the process, as poor practices can lead to the loss of nutrients and flavour due to an overly high temperature or an excessive drying time. We pack our walnuts in a protective atmosphere to extend their shelf life and maintain the product quality for longer. This means you'll be able to open the packs whenever you want without the other nuts losing quality. In addition, this helps to significantly lower the volume of the package and reduce the carbon footprint of our deliveries. You can enjoy the walnuts on their own or with something else, in your meals and as a snack. Don't disregard the smaller pieces, as they're perfect for adding to a yoghurt, a salad or certain recipes, or even for making your own granola. As well as being delicious, they'll give you an extra boost of energy in your day-to-day life. It's best to store open packs in a cool and dry place (maximum temperature of 20°C) so that they preserve all their organoleptic and nutritional properties. The packaged walnuts keep for a year, but we recommend finishing opened packs within thirty days.
When will you receive it?
We pick our walnuts in the month of October and then meticulously select the best ones for drying and vacuum-packing. This process takes some time, so we'll send you the walnuts at the end of the year.
