The project

Adopt a kiwi plant from the "Moulin des Cabanes" farm in Corbère (France) and receive your organic kiwis at home. Bruno will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt a kiwi plant from our farm in Corbère (France). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2017. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your kiwi plant. I have been growing kiwi since 1980, and more specifically the Haryward variety which adapts well to our climate and to our limestone clay-lime soil. This "tree" or rather this "liana" belongs to the Actinidia family and is native to China. It appeared in France around the 1970s. My parents were among the first to cultivate it in the south of France to replace the vegetable crops they had at the time. The cultivation of kiwi has many similarities with vine cultivation: its appearance, its pruning methods, its productive lifetime, etc. It is a liana with exuberant vegetation that must be supported by metal structures so that the branches filled with fruit do not end up on the ground. A male plant, which does not bear fruit, is necessary for 7 female plants, which do bear fruit. In Winter, we prune to keep only the new shoots of the year and in Summer, we remove the greedy ones. In spring and early summer, we add beehives to our orchards to help pollination. In the Autumn, usually early November, we pick the kiwi fruits manually once they reach a suitable sugar level, then they are stored in a cold room where they keep their properties for several months. Your adoption is 43 years old and its maximum lifespan is 60 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your kiwi plant produces an average of 12kg of organic kiwis each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 12 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format:__ 2.5kg box of organic kiwis __ * Hayward: A fruit with an emerald green pulp and numerous small seeds, while in the middle of the fruit is the cream-coloured core, which is also edible; its completely fuzzy skin is light brown and the flavour achieves the perfect balance between sweet and tart * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2017 * Excellent to enjoy as is at breakfast time or in a fruit salad * Contrary to other fruits, kiwis cannot be harvested gradually and need to be harvested all at once when having reached their full maturity; in order to avoid food waste and to ensure farmer’s economic stability, they are kept in cold storage, never longer than the current season (maximum of 12 weeks storage) * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 8 and 13 fruits * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last up to 4 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * It is a climacteric fruit which is harvested when it reaches physiological maturity; after being picked from the tree it then continues to ripen until it has reached its optimum point for consumption

When will you receive it?

We harvest kiwi fruits manually at the beginning of November and can send them to you from November to January.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
