Carlos Arenes
At home my whole family has always been associated with working the fields. My grandparents were farmers and marketers. My father has also been a farmer and since I was seven or eight years old I spent my summers with him in the countryside helping where I could. In the early morning we went to the fields to harvest the fruits (peaches, apricots,...) and later in the inner courtyard of our house we packed them into wooden boxes to send them to the markets of Valencia and Barcelona.
I finished my studies specializing in agriculture and at 22 years-old, while my friends started to buy their cars and motorbikesm, I took out a loan to buy El Monte de Carlos. Little by little we transformed the farm and have been planting different varieties until today. Some didn’t turn out the way we expected, while with others we were more successful, but I love to keep trying out varieties and keeping myself up-to-date with the latest developments.
Monte de Carlos
The Monte de Carlos is a small farm difficult to reach in the midst of a mountain, ideals for developing the cultivation of stoned fruit without the use of pesticides. The absence of other forms of cultivation along with a large forests which surrounds the field and prevents the spreading of pests.
In 2012 there was a huge fire in this zone which destroyed the whole mount, burning all of the mediterranean pine trees. The fire didn’t reach the farm but the hot air killed all the trees we had planted. The farm started producing again in the summer of 2014 with the plantation of trees which are now in full production. We have apricot trees (Albasol variety), persimmon trees (Sinsu variety) and clementine trees (Orogrande variety).
