The project

Adopt an apple tree from the farm "Maison Tamisier" in L’Isle Sur La Sorgue (France) and receive your harvest in the form of Demeter organic red and two-tone apples at home. Laurent will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you received your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

What do you adopt?

You adopt an apple tree from our farm in L’Isle Sur La Sorgue (France). Cultivation certified organic by the European Union since 2009 and certified Demeter since 2020. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your apple tree. The Gala apple is a variety of red apple resulting from a cross between Golden Delicious and Kidd's Orange Red. It was created in New Zealand in the 1930s by the nurseryman J.H. Kidd. It is a firm-flesh variety. Our red and two-toned apple orchards are ideally located in the south-east of France. This enables us to carry out the earliest harvesting in Europe, at the beginning of August, for the first apples. Did you know? Gala is the second most cultivated variety in France after Golden. Our crop managers constantly monitor the technical aspects and study the orchards' ecosystem so as to promote biodiversity. Various environmentally friendly production techniques are used. Installing nesting boxes favours the presence of insectivorous birds that are fond of the codling moths in apples. It is a Lepidopteran producing larvae that bore galleries which alter the quality and preservation of the fruit. You adopt an apple tree of the Gala variety, but your adoption will also allow you to discover other varieties (depending on the harvest calendar): Akane and Red Delicious. These varieties have the special feature of being more resistant to marks and shocks, which makes them excellent apples for storage. Your adoption is 11 years old and its productive life is around 30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your adoption produces an average of 18kg of Demeter organic red and two-tone apples each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve on the moment of adoption. You will be able to receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 4 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __4.5kg box of organic Demeter red and two-tone apples__ * Akane (August-October): An early variety with firm, crunchy and juicy pulp; tart, its delicious fragrance and subtle notes of wild strawberries are the perfect way to launch the apple season * Gala (October-November): an early variety, it is very popular with the young and the old; sweet with a balanced aroma with a hint of sourness and a fruity taste of banana and pear; its flavours are precious assets that can be appreciated both in pies and in the oven * Red Delicious (November-January): an intense red apple rich in antioxidants with a moderately crunchy and juicy pulp; soft, sweet and slightly tart flavours * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2009 * Biodynamic farming certified by the Demeter label since 2020 * They are not treated with wax or preservatives (you can use the peel) * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * The box includes some extra fruits, in case some of them arrive damaged * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 7 and 8 fruits (the box contains between 30 and 40 fruits depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 2-3 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * It is a climacteric fruit, harvested when it reaches physiological ripeness but continues to evolve after harvesting until it is ready for consumption * Important: The fruits usually arrive hard, keep them at room temperature until they reach they are ready to eat; if you receive an alread ripe piece, you can put it in the fridge or eat it straight away

When will you receive it?

They are picked from August to November and ripen until January. You will receive a single-variety package depending on the harvest periods for our different varieties, i.e. Akane from August to October, Gala from October to November, followed by Red Delicious from November to January.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
