The project

Adopt a pomegranate tree from the farm "Maison Tamisier" in L’Isle Sur La Sorgue (France) and receive your harvest in the form of organic pomegranates at home. Laurent will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you received your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

What do you adopt?

You adopt a pomegranate tree from our farm in L’Isle Sur La Sorgue (France). Cultivation certified organic by the European Union since 2017. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your pomegranate tree. Our pomegranate trees were planted in 2017 and started producing in 2020. The organic Bigful variety is produced and marketed exclusively by Maison Tamisier, something of which we are very proud. It is a variety that emerged from our wish to create a disease-resistant variety, besides meeting the many expectations of the consumer. It is thanks to the 20 years of experience at the Nurfruits nurseries in Spain in selecting and improving varieties that Bigful came into being. Our 45 ha orchards of Bigful pomegranates are evolving in a Mediterranean climate that is ideal for their development. Fruit production calls for preferably dry heat in summer, but the pomegranate tree requires a lot of water and cool surroundings for its root development, and it is only under these conditions that it yields a lot of good-quality fruit. The pomegranate tree likes sunny, sheltered locations but tolerates very low temperatures (from -10° to -17°C) in winter. Hencec the choice of their location! They are planted alongside the Sorgue, an abundant river that springs from Fontaine de Vaucluse. To compensate for the lack of water in times of drought, we have a controlled and coordinated irrigation system. The drip-feed system enables us to manage the water better, besides reducing the risks of the fruit's bursting. Tensiometric probes monitor the water content of the soil in real time. Flowering extends over a lengthy period of 50-70 days, from May to July. The first wave of flowering (mid-May to mid-June) gives the best fruit set (90%), with good-quality fruit that is less likely to burst. Fruit development takes between 120 and 160 days, and the fruit finally ripens from late September to late October. When winter comes and we have to combat frost, we equip the orchards with sprinklers placed on the canopy. When the water freezes calories are released that enable us to maintain an ambient temperature of 0°C, and so the buds are protected by a layer of ice. Since the orchards are still young, the manual or mechanical weeding system is too inconvenient to put into practice. So we use sheet mulching around the trees in order to restrict weed growth. Your adoption is 4 years old and its productive life is around 30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your adoption produces an average of 20kg of organic pomegranates each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others

What will you receive?

During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve on the moment of adoption. You will be able to receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 4 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __5kg box of organic pomegranates__ * Bigful: a variety recognisable by its intense red colour, very sweet and aromatic with translucent seeds, also called arils that contain almost non-existent pips, so that the whole seed surrounding it can be eaten! * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2017 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * The box includes some extra fruits, in case some of them arrive damaged * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 3 and 4 fruits (the box contains between 15 and 20 fruits depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 2-3 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) __Serving suggestion:__ * Using a knife, make a cut on the upper part of the peel in the shape of a hexagon * Then pull on the stem to remove the fruit's "cap" from it * The seeds are then finally visible. Make fine cuts in the peel along the white membranes * Separate the different parts to form a star and remove the central membrane It's now ready for you to taste!

When will you receive it?

Our Bigful pomegranates are picked and sent out from October to November.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
