The project

Adopt a pomegranate tree from the "Le Verger Bio de Véronique" farm in Rivesaltes (France) and receive your organic pomegranates at home. Véronique will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt a pomegranate tree from our farm in Rivesaltes (France). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2016. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your pomegranate tree. We offer our NFG102 pomegranate trees for adoption. They have been cultivated following Organic farming methods since their plantation in 2016, using no synthetic chemical products. This is a new variety that was discovered in Spain and belongs to the Lythraceae family. Its self-fertilising shrubs can grow up to 4 metres high and display beautiful colours from spring onwards with deep red flowers. We try to modernise our pomegranate orchards, cultivating them in fruit hedge, which means that trees are trained and planted in high density. We believe that this type of plantation allows us to produce fruit faster because we have 5 times more trees per hectare than a traditional orchard. Also, having trained trees reduces the risk that branches scratch the pomegranates, which results in less damaged fruits. Having a fruit hedge orchard makes manual operations like pruning or harvesting easier as well, plus it reduces the risk that workers hurt themselves with pomegranate thorns. In addition to the organic farming certification, our orchards are also certified by IFS (Certification on quality management). Your adoption is 7 years old and its maximum lifespan is 20 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your pomegranate tree produces an average of 15kg of organic pomegranates each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __5kg box of organic pomegranates__ * NFG102 : Fleshy and fully red fruit, arils are very juicy, sweet and aromatic * You can eat the pomegranate in quarters like an orange, or put all the arils in a bowl and eat it with a spoon * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2016 * In order to avoid food waste and to ensure farmer’s economic stability, they are kept in cold storage, never longer than the current season (maximum of 12 weeks storage) * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 3 and 4 fruits (the box contains between 15 and 20 fruits depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 3 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) You will be amazed by these pomegranates. Thanks to the absence of horizontal inner walls and the shrunk seeds, they are simpler for you to peel and eat it. To check the fruit’s ripeness, we regularly taste them so all the pomegranates you will receive are going to be ready to consume. Did you know that it is fairly easy to eat a pomegranate without dirtying your hands? Some instructions on how to peel a pomegranate will be included in each box. The edible part of the fruit is called an aril. Protected by a robust husk, it seems tedious to eat a pomegranate. However, a simple cut underneath the “flower” will allow you to remove the top of the fruit. You will then see the arils, separated by vertical membranes, and only have to cut the fruit following these membranes to access the delicious arils. The arils are very juicy, sweet and aromatic. You can eat each part like an orange or put all the arils in a bowl and eat them with a spoon.

When will you receive it?

You may select the delivery date of your box as suggested by the Farmer at check-out. Our fruits are harvested 2 to 3 times each season in order to pick only the ripe fruits, usually during september and november. You are, of course, free to choose how many boxes you wish to receive. The surplus will be available to other consumers, no waste!

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
