The project

Adopt a fig tree from the "Le Verger Bio de Véronique" farm in Rivesaltes (France) and receive your organic black figs at home. Véronique will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt a fig tree from our farm in Rivesaltes (France). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2022. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your fig tree. The Roussillon region is characterised by a climate that is hot and dry, with abundant wind and sunshine, protecting us from the main diseases and thus facilitating Organic Farming. This particular climate is also very conducive to the production of extremely sweet and fragrant fruit. The fig tree is a plant that is accustomed to the dry and arid climates of the Mediterranean perimeter, so it likes it very much here with us! The bourjassote noire is a large fig cultivated since ancient times in the countries north of the Mediterranean Sea. It belongs to the Moraceae/Mulberry family. The fig tree is a rather capricious tree that can take many years to start producing. It has been discovered that the shorter the trunk of the fig tree, the faster it starts to bear fruit. So we created a very low orchard with trunks of only about fifteen centimetres and we give the tree the shape of a large bowl. Because of this, the year after planting, we were already starting to eat the first figs. The other advantage of having very low fig trees that grow in width is the ease of harvesting: harvesting can be done while standing, working from the top of the tree and thus the inconveniences associated with fig milk, which is very urticating, are limited. This orchard has never seen a single pesticide: it has been cultivated with Organic Agriculture since it was planted. Today, all the crops of the Veronique Organic Grove are grown through Organic Agriculture. Your adoption is 2 years old and its maximum lifespan is 35 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your fig tree produces an average of 2kg of organic black figs each season.

What will you receive?

Each season we will send you a box with: __2kg organic black figs__ * Bourjassote Noire variety: a fleshy black fig with a very fragrant purplish red pulp, thick epidermis that facilitates shipping * Can be eaten fresh, but also very good in cakes if they damage too fast for you * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2022 * The fruits are harvested when having reached their full maturity * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * Very fragile fruit that should be kept in the vegetable tray of the refrigerator and eaten during the week; I advise you to take out the ones you want to eat a few hours before, as they will be more tasty at room temperature!

When will you receive it?

Our fig variety is harvested at the end of summer: from mid-August to the end of October. The figs are harvested, sorted to avoid any damage during transport, cooled in a cold room to prevent them from ripening too quickly and finally shipped within 3-4 days of harvest.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
