You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
Adopt tomato plants that we cultivate under the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2021. Have you ever thought about adopting a tomato plant? Now is the time! On the "La Salada" farm you can adopt three tomato plants of the Lobello variety. These tomatoes are grown between rows of young avocado trees outdoors, without greenhouses. As the avocado trees have not yet grown tall, we take advantage of the space between the rows to grow tomato plants and thus take advantage of all of the farm's resources. We plant this variety several times during the season so we can supply you with tomatoes throughout the summer. The tomato is an annual herbaceous plant that originated in America. It belongs to the Solanaceae family, together with other vegetables such as potatoes, peppers and aubergines. It is believed to have been used in Mexican cuisine for over 2,500 years, and its name comes from the indigenous word xītomatl. Nowadays, it is cultivated all over the world and there are countless recipes for both fresh and cooked tomatoes. Although it is well-known and highly appreciated all over the world, the origin of the cherry tomato is unclear. The "plum" variety refers to its elongated shape and Lobello is the name of the sub-variety. Cherry tomatoes differ from other tomatoes as they are smaller in size. Our crops are grown with the environment in mind. In 2021, we started the process to obtain the organic farming certification on the “La Salada” farm for both tomatoes and avocados. We use biodegradable plastic on the soil, so we don’t have to use herbicides and can contain weeds. This plastic also helps to retain humidity and to reduce the amount of water required for irrigation. Both our tomato and avocado crops are fed with our own spring water which is rich in calcium and magnesium. Our spring is a gift from nature that ensures that all our water naturally contains consistent levels of these essential minerals. Each litre of water that feeds our tomato and avocado crops naturally contains approx. 350mg of calcium and 185mg of magnesium. These minerals are obtained thanks to the spring running through a calcium-magnesium rockbed layer. A tomato plants from our farm produces an average of 12 kg each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with the amount you reserve. This way you will only pay for what you consume and we can plan and sell the remaining harvest amount to others.
During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve at the moment of adoption. You will receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 6 boxes according to your needs.
