Adopt a mango tree from the "La Reala" farm in Motril (Spain) and receive your organic late mangos at home. Damián will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt a mango tree from our farm in Motril (Spain). The cultivation here has been certified as organic by the European Union as of 2018. Among the varieties of mangoes that we grow at Finca La Reala, the Kent and Keiit varieties are among the most valued and sought after. These varieties are a little later which allows you to have mangoes for longer. The mango is a fruit from Asia that has adapted very well to being cultivated in our region. The trees do not exceed 2.5 m in height as they are grafted onto a dwarf rootstock (Gomera III). This is a desirable feature as our farm is on a mountainside and is an area where it is quite windy, which can damage very tall plants. The crops are efficiently drip irrigated with pure water from the snow melt of the nearby Sierra Nevada. We began with the EU organic certification of the farm in 2010. We now hold the prestigious Bio Suisse organic certificate (extra certification for the environment and biodiversity), issued by Switzerland's largest organic farming association. Our farm has areas of Mediterranean forest and mountains with abundant flora and wild fauna. There are many sections of pine forest and Mediterranean shrubbery where you can see foxes, mountain goats, chameleons, or birds of prey. Your adoption is 5 years old and its maximum lifespan is 30 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. This farm is one of the largest associated with a farmers' cooperative with which we market our agricultural products. The fruit you'll receive mainly comes from this farm, but we also rely on other members of the cooperative. We all grow under the same quality parameters audited by the cooperative's technicians. Together we're stronger and provide better service. My father was a founding partner of the cooperative and our mangos have helped us receive the following awards: * Innovative Initiative Award, granted by the Andalusian Federation of Cooperatives * First Prize for Corporate Social Responsibility, awarded by the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs * Generosity Award, granted by the Granada Food Bank Foundation The cooperative currently holds the GLOBALG.A.P., Grasp and Bio Suisse quality certifications for organic farming. Your mango tree produces an average of 10kg of organic late mangos each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __ 2,5kg box of organic mangos__ * Kent (octubre - noviembre): oval-rounded shape, medium-large size, tough reddish-yellow skin, flesh with few fibers; sweet, slightly acidic taste * Keitt (October - November): ovoid-oblong shape, large size, green and pink skin, has low fiber content, pulp with a sweet and slightly sour taste * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2018 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 1 and 3 fruits * Keep them at room temperature until they are ripe, once they are fully ripe put them in the fridge to keep them longer * It is a climacteric fruit which is harvested when it reaches physiological maturity; after being picked from the tree it then continues to ripen until it has reached its optimum point for consumption The first thing you should do when you receive the box of mangos is inspect the fruit. Some of them might be ready to eat, Even so, you may have to wait a few days until the others are ready. This can range from three to twenty days, depending on the variety and the ripening conditions. If you have to wait, keep the mangos in a dry place. If most of them are already ripe, you can store them directly in the fridge. Ripening will depend on the respiration of the fruit. Placing them at a higher temperature accelerates respiration and with it the ripening, while in cold temperatures it is delayed. When they give slightly under your fingers and begin to give off their aroma, you can place them in the fridge and eat them a few days later. If for some reason they over-ripen, you can freeze the flesh to make smoothies or other recipes in the future, dehydrate them, or make jam with them. To eat, separate the flesh from the skin. To do so, you can peel it, or cut it in half and cut the flesh into small squares to make it easier to eat.
When will you receive it?
The mango is a fruit that ripens with the rays of the summer sun, so the harvest season begins in autumn. For the Kent variety, these times may vary slightly depending on the weather, so the harvest may start a bit earlier or a bit later. Mangoes from our farm are of excellent quality due to the care with which they are cultivated. You'll receive them very fresh due to the proximity between the farm and the consumer. We only pick them when they reach between 10 and 12 Degrees Brix, so they have a spectacular level of sweetness. We ripen the fruit on the tree and don't store them in cold rooms, so in a few hours they will go from the tree to your home.
