The project

Adopt 12m² of a sweet potato field from "La Oizéenne" in Oizé (France) and receive your harvest in the form of organic sweet potatoes at home. Pierre will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt 12m² of a sweet potato field from our farm in Oizé (France) that we cultivate following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2020. The variety we grow is Beauregard, which originates from the United States and was first put on sale in 1987. It is highly valued for its robustness against disease and has been widely grown for many years in the USA and New Zealand. The sweet potato is an annual plant. The plot of land on which the sweet potatoes are now grown had been fallow for about ten years. The soil has completely regenerated and we have certified this plot as organic in 2020. After the last frosts, we plant the plants in the spring in sandy soil. We manually weed the plants by hoeing to develop the plants and aerate the soil in order to let the water infiltrate to the roots. The sweet potato cultivation starts in October, when we manually remove three quarters of the leaves to optimize the sweet potato ripening. The Beauregard sweet potato is then harvested by hand from October to November. A sweet potato field from our farm produces an average of 24kg each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with the amount you reserve. This way you will only pay for what you consume and we can plan and sell the remaining harvest amount to others.

What will you receive?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __6kg box of organic sweet potatoes__ * Beauregard: its skin and pulp is orange, its shape is long, medium to large size and its taste is between potato, carrot, almond and chestnut with a sweetness between carrot and pumpkin * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2020 * You can prepare it as a puree, fried with paprika, pan-fried with oil and sesame seeds and much more * One kilo contains between 1 and 5 sweet potatoes (the box contains between 6 and 30 fruits depending on the size) * The box includes some extra sweet potatoes, in case some of them arrive damaged * These sweet potatoes can be stored until February in a dry place away from light

When will you receive it?

Sweet potatoes are planted in spring and harvested from the end of October until the end of November. We will send them to you until January because they keep very well at room temperature until the beginning of the year.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
