The project

Adopt an almond tree from the farm "La Junquera" in Cehegin (Spain) and receive your organic regenerative almonds at home. Alfonso will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt an almond tree from our farm in Cehegin (Spain). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2009. Welcome to La Junquera, our farm and a regenerative village! Here you can adopt rainfed almond trees, a crop that is believed to have been introduced to Spain by the Phoenicians more than two thousand years ago. However, it was the Romans who spread cultivation of the tree across the Iberian Peninsula. Remains of these trees found on sunken ships suggest that both civilisations used to trade with them. Although there are many varieties of almonds, at La Junquera we grow the following: * Avijor: one of the most used and very well adapted to dry land * Guara: very drought tolerant * Antoñeta: a variety obtained in our region, Murcia, and highly immune to almond tree diseases Our almond trees have several distinctive qualities, which make the flavour of their nuts truly unique. They grow in a semi-desert area of Murcia, where both winters and summers are extreme and rains are scarce and highly concentrated. We grow these rainfed crops using regenerative organic farming techniques, a type of agriculture geared towards the recovery of soil, water and biodiversity in order to achieve a sustainable agricultural and livestock system. But not only do we have almond trees on our farm, as we're also committed to biodiversity through crop diversification. That's why La Junquera also has pistachio trees, olive trees, aromatic plants and even an orchard! Your adoption is 6 years old and its maximum lifespan is 30 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your almond tree produces an average of 2kg of organic regenerative almonds each season.

What will you receive?

Each season we will send you a box with: 2 kg of __regenerative organic shelled almonds__ * Guara: a more rounded and light brown almond, very sweet * Avijor: Uniform grain with an elongated shape, light amber colour and pleasantly sweet flavour * Antoñetta: Uniform rounded grain, light colour and intense sweet flavour * You'll receive a mixture of these three varieties * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2009 and regenerative organic farming since 2015 * You can eat them as soon as you open the bag, whether raw as a snack, or toasted or fried, or in a yoghurt, or in delicious desserts such as almond and cinnamon fritters. * You'll receive them in cloth bags that you can wash and use again to store anything you need * Always keep them in a cool and dry place protected from direct sunlight, ideally in a glass jar with an airtight seal; In this case, they'll keep for up to twelve months

When will you receive it?

Our almonds are harvested in the month of September, although there are some seasons that can be extended until early October. Once collected, we dry them, remove the shell and pack them in the cloth bags. You'll receive them at home from November onwards.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
