The project

Adopt an orange tree from the farm "Huerta del Almanzora" in Arboleas (Spain) and receive your organic regenerative oranges and lemons at home. Juan will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt an orange tree from our farm in Arboleas (Spain). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union since 1998. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your orange tree. Our orange trees are mostly of the Washington Navel variety. This is an old variety that was discovered in 1935 after a spontaneous mutation in Washington. It's now one of the widest grown varieties in the world and adapts perfectly to the climate of our valley, the Almanzora. Orange cultivation started here thanks mainly to the water from our river and its aquifers. The mountains are very close to our region, which results in a prosperous and productive environment that has turned meadows into beautiful citrus orchards. My family followed in the footsteps of other producers, with my father transforming the land to produce oranges and lemons. Our orange trees are grown with care and have been organic since 1998 thanks to our commitment to the environment. We grow our fruit without fertilisers or synthetic pesticides. Our agriculture is based on preventive methods with natural products, as established by European Union regulations. For example, we mainly use goat manure from a nearby livestock farm for fertilising the soil. In the same box you'll receive lemons of the Verna variety. Like the oranges, they have been grown organically since 1998. This variety was developed in Spain and adapts to the environmental conditions of the region. Your adoption is 27 years old and its productive life is around 40 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Each orange tree bears an average of 55kg per season. You can decide how many kilos you would like to reserve from your tree and pay the maintenance costs based on the chosen quantity. This helps the Farmer to plan and sell the remaining harvest amount from your tree to others.

What will you receive?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: Box of __7kg of oranges and 4kg of organic regenerative lemons__ * Washington Navel oranges (end of November-March): Large, spherical or somewhat elongated in shape with a fairly pronounced navel; bright orange colour and easy to peel, with lots of juice and a sweet taste * Navelina oranges (December-January): they have a small prominent navel, an oval shape, and are very juicy * Verna lemons (December-July): elongated shape, medium-large size, almost seedless and low acidity, natural source of vitamin C * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 1998 * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * One kilo oranges contains between 4 and 6 fruits * One kilo lemons contains between 4 and 6 fruits * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 2-3 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * You'll see that the first lemons of the season may have a greenish hue, but over the weeks they'll take on the typical yellow tone of this variety

When will you receive it?

The delivery time can be adjusted in the short term but is usually from the end of December to March.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
