Adopt a tangerine tree of our farm "Hort de Bitem" in Bitem (Spain) and receive your harvest in the form of Organic tangerines at home. The Farmer Joaquín will take care for your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
Adopt a tangerine tree that we cultivate under the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2008. During the process of adoption you can choose a name that we will engrave on a plaque and hang on your tree. Our Gold Nugget tangerines often have a rough skin that gives them a pumpkin-like appearance. Because of this roughness, they may look ugly at first sight but once you try them you fall in love with them. For me, it is one of the best fruits of the season as it has a good balance between sour and sweet. Many times people don't dare to buy these fruits because of the way they look and at Hort de Bitem since we tried them, it was clear that we wanted to give them a chance. Organic cultivation accentuates these characteristics as no products of any kind can be used to improve the appearance of the skin. The productive life of a tangerine tree is around 25-30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your tangerine tree dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from other trees. Each tangerine tree bears an average of 50kg per season.
During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve on the moment of adoption. Shipping format: __5 kg box of Organic Gold Nugget tangerines__ * Harvested from the tree on request * One kilo contains between 6 and 9 fruits (the box contains between 30 and 45 fruits depending on the size) * Percentage of juice: 40% * Considered a low-acid variety * Very easy to peel * It doesn't usually have seeds * Some have rough skin: "imperfect look" on the outside and perfect on the inside The skin contains many essential oil glands. During transport, these glands may be ruptured by the rubbing of tangerines against each other. When this happens the glands release oil and stain the skin of the tangerine. This oil generates black spots on the skin that do not affect the taste.
