Organic Mandarines Gold Nugget
Hort de Bitem
You are too late to adopt a mandarin tree from this Farmer. Check out the other projects.

The project

Adopt {publicVariety} of our farm "{farmName}" in {cityfarm} ({countryFarm}) and receive your harvest in the form of {production} at home. The Farmer {farmerName} will take care for your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

What do you adopt?
Adopt {publicVariety} that we cultivate under the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2008. During the process of adoption you can choose a name that we will engrave on a plaque and hang on your tree. Our Gold Nugget mandarins often have a rough skin that gives them a pumpkin-like appearance. Because of this roughness, they may look ugly at first sight but once you try them you fall in love with them. For me, it is one of the best fruits of the season as it has a good balance between sour and sweet. Many times people don't dare to buy these fruits because of the way they look and at Hort de Bitem since we tried them, it was clear that we wanted to give them a chance. Organic cultivation accentuates these characteristics as no products of any kind can be used to improve the appearance of the skin. The productive life of {publicVariety} is around 25-30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your {variety} dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from other trees. Each {variety} bears an average of {masterUnitsMax}kg per season.
What will you receive?
During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve on the moment of adoption. Shipping format: __5 kg box of Organic Gold Nugget mandarins__ * Harvested from the tree on request * Quantity in 1 kg: 6 to 9 fruits * Percentage of juice: 40% * Considered a low-acid variety * Very easy to peel * It doesn't usually have seeds * Some have rough skin: "imperfect look" on the outside and perfect on the inside The skin contains many essential oil glands. During transport, these glands may be ruptured by the rubbing of mandarins against each other. When this happens the glands release oil and stain the skin of the mandarine. This oil generates black spots on the skin that do not affect the taste.
When will you receive it?
Please, check the deadline for participating in this project (deadline for adoption) below. As of this date shipments begin. You can plan all the deliveries once you completed the adoption process.
Why should you adopt?
* Learn who produces your food, how and where. Receive your food in a conscious manner. * Buy directly from the farmer. Help to generate wealth and better jobs in the rural areas. * Plan ahead and enable the Farmer to produce on demand. This way we can avoid overproduction and fight food waste. * Reward Farmers who make an effort to use environmentally-friendly packaging and cultivation techniques.

Joaquín Gine
I am the son and grandson of farmers, our family has always been linked to the countryside, growing vegetables, fruit trees, olives and citrus. But at the moment we only grow organic citrus. We decided to switch to organic farming because we used to do integrated agriculture and we decided to take a step forward and differentiate ourselves with a high quality product, respecting the environment and nutritional health as much as possible. We are the third generation of a family business dedicated to the production of citrus fruits. We produce and pack our fruit in the farm warehouse. I have always dedicated myself to agriculture because it motivates me and it satisfies me to see, on a day to day basis, how every plant that we take care of evolves until it yields the expected fruit in order to be able to deliver it to our customers. We are currently looking forward to joining CrowdFarming, so that we can deliver our organic citrus directly to you.

"I am a professional farmer and together with my family we have different farms located in our region: El Baix Ebre, located in the south of Catalonia. There we have different varieties of mandarins and oranges, so that our customers can enjoy our citrus fruits for as long as possible, starting at the end of October and ending at the end of June depending on each season. The future as a farmer I see in being able to deliver our products directly with the highest quality."

The "Hort de Bítem" farm is located on the left bank of the river Ebro, bordering the highest point with the pines of the area that extends from the "Sierra de Cardó y Boix". Over the centuries the Ebro River has deposited sediments on the banks of the river, making these areas ideal locations for cultivation. The farm has a level difference of about 35 meters from the river to where the pines start. From the highest point we have a good view of the region with the Ebro valley in its centre. The production of the farm is entirely organic since 2008. It covers an area of 8.5 hectares and we have different varieties of citrus fruit, always grown organically, such as Fukumoto, which is the first to be harvested at the beginning of November, and also the navels which will be harvested in January and February. Apart from the varieties from the CrowdFarming project we have others that allow us to extend the season and complement it with mandarins and lemons. On the same farm we have the farmhouse where my parents live and also the warehouse where we manage, prepare and send orders to our customers.. The farms we have are located within the Terres de l'Ebre Biosphere Reserve and at the same time we are surrounded by two natural parks "Ports de Tortosa" and "Delta de L'Ebre".
