The project

Adopt an avocado tree from the farm "Finca Marroquino" in Cútar (Spain) and receive your harvest in the form of avocados and organic lemons at home. Paco will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt an avocado tree from our farm in Cútar (Spain) that we cultivate following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union. We are already in the process of converting and expect to be officially certified by 2023. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your avocado tree. I grow several different varieties of avocado on the Marroquino farm. The Hass variety is the most cultivated in the world, it originated in California in 1926 from a Guatemalan seed. It has a longer harvest season and is of a great quality, this variety is responsible for the increase in global avocado consumption since the 1960s. This mixed box includes lemons of the Fino variety. We have a small plot of organically grown lemons on one of our farms and I think it is a good way for you to enjoy these two fruits together. We carry out a careful harvest straight from the tree to the box. It is an artisanal and traditional production in which we use no machinery because the terrain has a steep slope. Our trees are grown on a family farm that has been converting into an organic farming since 2020. Our farm uses modern drip irrigation systems to save water. The most special thing about our harvest is its flavour. During the harvesting season we make delicious avocado smoothies as well as homemade guacamole. We have not won any prizes, but we do have the satisfaction of knowing that our friends and family enjoy the excellent quality of the fruit, every time we give them a gift, that is our best prize! Your adoption is 22 years old and its productive life is around 100 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your avocado tree produces an average of 16kg each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 0 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __2kg box of avocados and 0.75kg of organic lemons__ * Hass avocado (December - April): pear-shaped, dark green skin that turns black when ripe, yellowish pulp with a nutty flavour, very creamy texture, small seed * Fino lemon (October - April): oval shape; yellow or green skin with a thin and smooth rind; pale yellow flesh; bitter flavour * Farming in transition to organic farming since 2020 and Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2011 Fino lemon * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo of avocados contains between 3 and 6 fruits * One kilo of lemons contains between 6 and 10 fruits * Keep the avocados at room temperature until they are ripe, once they are fully ripe put them in the fridge to keep them longer * The avocado it is a climacteric fruit, harvested when it reaches physiological ripeness but continues to evolve after harvesting until it is ready for consumption * Important: The fruits usually arrive hard, keep them at room temperature until they reach they are ready to eat; if you receive an already ripe piece, you can put it in the fridge or eat it straight away * If you keep the lemons in a fresh and airy place, they can last 2 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * You'll see that the first lemons of the season may have a greenish hue, but over the weeks they'll take on the typical yellow tone of this variety

When will you receive it?

The seasonal weather affects the advance or delay of flowering that normally occurs in March. It can also affect the fruit's accumulation of fat and weight at the time of harvesting. The normal harvest time for Hass avocados in our area is from December until the end of March. The Fino lemon can be harvested from the beginning of autumn until the end of spring, so these two fruits coincide during the avocado season.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
