Adopt an avocado tree from the farm "Finca Marroquino" in Cútar (Spain) and receive your early avocados at home. Paco will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time in case the preparation has not started yet.
You adopt an avocado tree from our farm in Cútar (Spain) that we cultivate following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union. We are already in the process of converting and expect to be officially certified by 2022. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your avocado tree. On the Marroquino farm, we grow four varieties of avocado here at Finca Marroquino: Hass, Lamb Hass, Fuerte and Bacon. In this project we propose the adoption of a tree of the Bacon or Fuerte varieties, which are earlier varieties and can be harvested from autumn onwards. They have smooth skin, ripen green and have a lower fat content, but are still delicious! The Bacon variety is the earliest one, it originated in the 1920s and is very resilient to strong winds. It is named after its discoverer James Bacon. The Fuerte variety (The Spanish "fuerte" translates to "strong") is so called because it was the only variety that withstood a harsh winter in Mexico in 1911; it is a variety that tolerates the cold better than the others. We carefully select the fruit we pick from the tree to prepare your box. This is an artisan and traditional production where no machinery is used for the cultivation nor the harvest unless the terrain is too steep and doesn’t leave us another option. Our plantation is located on a family farm that has been in conversion to organic agriculture since 2020. We use modern micro-irrigation systems in order to save water. The most special thing about our crop is the flavour of the fruit. In season, we make delicious avocado smoothies as well as homemade guacamole. We never received any award nor do we need it; our greatest reward is the satisfaction we get from giving our avocados as presents for our family and friends, and the phone call that usually follows to congratulate us for the excellent quality of the fruit. Your adoption is 5 years old and its productive life is 30 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and we guarantee your delivery from the production of other units. Your avocado tree produces an average of 40kg of early avocados each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __4kg box of avocados__ * Bacon (October - November): round, medium-large with smooth skin of dark green colour and darkens a little more as it matures, less fat than other varieties, very suitable for making guacamole * Fuerte (October - February): pear-shaped, medium-large size, smooth and thin skin, green colour when ripe with small whitish spots, less fat, very suitable for making guacamole * Farming in conversion to Organic Farming since 2020 * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 6 and 8 fruits * It is a climacteric fruit which is harvested when it reaches physiological maturity; after being picked from the tree it then continues to ripen until it has reached its optimum point for consumption * Important note: the fruits usually arrive hard; to ripen them, keep them at room temperature until they are ready to eat; if you receive some fruit that is already ripe, you can either eat it straight away or keep it in the fridge You can eat them when they start to become soft to the touch. These varieties will still have green skin when ripe. As their skin is thin, they may wrinkle slightly due to dehydration, but this should not affect the quality of the pulp. The ripening speed is accelerated by temperature, so in warmer areas or periods it may ripen faster. To eat, slice in half and scoop out the pulp with the help of a spoon. If you want to keep an already sliced half in the best conditions, add olive oil or lemon juice to reduce browning, store in the fridge and use as soon as possible.
When will you receive it?
The usual harvest time for our varieties in our area is: Bacon and Fuerte avocado from October to December.
