Adopt a persimmon tree from the farm "Finca Jelanisol-Montebelo" in Gibraleón (Spain) and receive your organic persimmons at home. Friedrich will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt a persimmon tree from our farm in Gibraleón (Spain). The cultivation here has been certified as organic by the European Union as of 1994. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your persimmon tree. The persimmons from our finca, Jelanisol-Montebello, are part of a personal project. As a result, for more than twenty-five years I've been studying the relationships between people, the land and the fairest way of distributing its fruits. Thanks to this, I've achieved an ecosystem in which our Persimmons interact with nature, in balance with the different layers that make it up. The persimmon tree is native to some Asian countries such as Japan and China and has been cultivated since the eighth century, although it didn't reach Europe until the end of the nineteenth century. We plant persimmons next to citrus trees, because they're very well adapted to the climate in the southwest of Spain, thanks to the many hours of sunshine per year and the thermal contrasts in the region. This makes it easier to grow them, as the trees set the optimal relationships for their development. Rest assured that your persimmon tree is part of a habitat in which each element has a function that benefits the other. This balance means that our farm is like a living being, which regulates itself and therefore protects itself from harmful external agents. And this is all thanks to our hard work running the farm in line with biodynamic agriculture and permaculture criteria. Your adoption is 11 years old and its maximum lifespan is 30 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your persimmon tree produces an average of 25kg of organic persimmons each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 10 boxes. Once have you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __2,5kg box of organic persimmons__ * Hanna Fuyu (October): flattened oval shape; medium size; pale orange skin and flesh; sweet taste with no bitterness * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 1992 * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * One kilo contains between 4 and 7 fruits * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last up to 10 days in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * It is a climacteric fruit which is harvested when it reaches physiological maturity; after being picked from the tree it then continues to ripen until it has reached its optimum point for consumption * Important note: the fruits usually arrive hard; to ripen them, keep them at room temperature until they are ready to eat; if you receive some fruit that is already ripe, you can either eat it right away or keep it in the fridge The Hanna Fuyu variety is famous for its great taste and lack of bitterness. This means that our persimmons are free from post-harvest treatments. So, basically, they come straight from the tree to your fruit bowl.
When will you receive it?
At Finca Jelanisol-Montebello, we start the persimmon season in October, although sometimes the harvest is brought forward due to the weather. From then on, we harvest until about the first week of November.
