The project

Adopt a kumquat tree from the "Finca Jelanisol-Montebelo" farm in Gibraleón (Spain) and receive your organic and Demeter kumquats at home. Friedrich will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt a kumquat tree from our farm in Gibraleón (Spain). The cultivation is certified as organic by the European Union as of 1992, and as Demeter as of 1994. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your kumquat tree. The kumquats trees from our finca, Jelanisol-Montebello, are part of a personal project. For more than twenty-five years I've been studying the relationships between people, the land and the fairest way of distributing its fruits. Thanks to this, I've achieved an ecosystem in which our kumquat trees interact with nature, in balance with the different layers that make it up. We produce kumquats of the Fortunella Margarita variety. In Huelva, this type of kumquat is grown exceptionally, as it requires major thermal contrasts. It originally comes from China and was introduced to Europe in the nineteenth century by the botanist Robert Fortune, hence its name. We plant the kumquat trees together with other citrus fruits, because they're very well adapted to the climate in the southwest of Spain, thanks to the many hours of sunshine per year and the climatic contrasts in the region. This makes it easier to grow them, as the trees set the optimal relationships for their development. Rest assured that your kumquat tree is part of a habitat in which each element has a role that benefits the other. This balance means that our farm is like a living organism, which regulates itself and therefore protects itself from harmful external agents. And this is all thanks to our hard work running the farm in line with biodynamic agricultural and permacultural criteria. Your adoption is 16 years old and its maximum lifespan is 40 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. By adopting a kumquat tree you can receive up to 10kg of organic and Demeter kumquats each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __2kg box of organic and biodynamic kumquats__ * Fortunella: ovoid shape, small size, orange colour, little pulp with sour taste, contains seeds * Biodynamic farming certified with the Demeter label since 1994 * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 1992 * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * One kilo contains between 60 and 70 fruits * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last up to 2-3 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge)

When will you receive it?

At Finca Jelanisol-Montebello, we start the kumquat season in December and may still be harvesting the fruit in March.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
