The project

Adopt a pomegranate tree from the "Finca Isla Rubí" farm in Cullera (Spain) and receive your organic pomegranate juice at home. José María will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt a pomegranate tree from our farm in Cullera (Spain). The cultivation here has been certified as organic by the European Union since 2015. It's said that the pomegranate, or *Punica granatum*, originates from *Mesopotamia* and was introduced into Spain by the Arabs back in the eighth century, in the beautiful city that bears its name in Spanish, Granada. In fact, the city's coat of arms still includes the symbol of a pomegranate today. Some ancient cultures would refer to it as a 'pharmacy' tree thanks to its many uses and properties. For thousands of years, it has been considered the fruit of fertility and the gods. What's more, everything from this tree is used, from its fruits to its skin, its flowers and even its bark and roots. When fully grown, pomegranate trees of the Wonderful variety can reach between three and four metres in height, the same as the radius of their crown. Pomegranate trees of the Mollar variety can reach between three and four metres in height. We use any imperfect pomegranates of either variety to make our 'La Imperfecta' pomegranate juice. We produce it at our own factory, controlling every point of production from growing the pomegranates to bottling and labelling the juice. Any leftovers from squeezing the juice are returned to the land as organic matter for the soil. At Finca Isla Rubí, we follow European regulations on organic farming, basing our agriculture on environmentally friendly practices such as fertilising with horse manure mixed with our own compost made from the remains of juice production. We organise our work depending on the time of year, always geared towards satisfying the needs of our trees to get the best fruits. In winter, when the tree enters a semi-dormant phase, it loses all its leaves and we take the opportunity to prune it. When spring comes, the tree produces new green shoots and beautiful red flowers start to bloom. In summer, these flowers turn into red berries similar to the baubles on a Christmas tree. Finally, when autumn arrives, the fruits finish ripening and their leaves turn yellow, heralding the most exciting season of the year, the harvest, which is a mix of nerves and joy. Your adoption is 7 years old and its maximum lifespan is 30 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your adoption produces an average of 30kg of organic pomegranates each season. With this amount we can produce around 10l of organic pomegranate juice.

What will you receive?

Each season we will send you a box with: 6 x __Organic pomegranate juice __(785 ml glass bottle) You'll receive a pure organic pomegranate juice made with the fusion of the two varieties of pomegranate that we grow on the farm: the sweet Mollar variety (La Imperfecta) that brings silkiness, sweetness and harmony to the juice and the other, the Wonderful variety, which is sharper and brings colour, freshness and structure. We squeeze them with their skin on and add nothing else. Absolutely nothing else at all. This makes our juice wonderfully balanced and unique. When bottling the juice, we perform a gentle pasteurisation process that gives it a shelf life of sixteen months. Once opened, it lasts for up to one week in the fridge. To fully enjoy the authentic flavour of Isla Rubí, I recommend serving the juice nice and cold. It's perfect to accompany your mid-morning or mid-afternoon snacks. Consuming pomegranate has never been so easy! You will receive your harvest personalised with the name you chose at the time of placing the adoption.

When will you receive it?

We produce this juice throughout the season from imperfect pomegranates that can't be sent but are still bursting with flavour. However, thanks to a gentle pasteurisation process, the juice can keep fresh for up to sixteen months once bottled. Therefore, you can receive it whenever you want over the course of the year.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
