Adopt a pomegranate tree from the farm "Finca Isla Rubí" in Cullera (Spain) and receive your harvest in the form of organic pomegranates at home. José María will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt a pomegranate tree from our farm in Cullera (Spain). Cultivation certified organic by the European Union since 2015. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your pomegranate tree. It's said that the pomegranate, or *Punica granatum*, originates from Mesopotamia and was introduced into Spain by the Arabs back in the eighth century, in the beautiful city that bears its name in Spanish, Granada. In fact, the city's coat of arms still includes the symbol of a pomegranate today. Some ancient cultures would refer to it as a 'pharmacy' tree thanks to its many uses and properties. For thousands of years, it has been considered the fruit of fertility and the gods. What's more, everything from this tree is used, from its fruits to its skin, its flowers and even its bark and roots. When fully grown, pomegranate trees of the Wonderful variety can reach between three and four metres in height, the same as the radius of their crown. At Finca Isla Rubí, we follow European regulations on organic farming, basing our agriculture on environmentally friendly practices such as fertilising with horse manure mixed with our own compost made from the remains of juice production. We organise our work depending on the time of year, always geared towards satisfying the needs of our trees to get the best fruits. In winter, when the tree enters a semi-dormant phase, it loses all its leaves and we take the opportunity to prune it. When spring comes, the tree produces new green shoots and beautiful red flowers start to bloom. In summer, these flowers turn into red berries similar to the baubles on a Christmas tree. Finally, when autumn arrives, the fruits finish ripening and their leaves turn yellow, heralding the most exciting season of the year, the harvest, which is a mix of nerves and joy. Your adoption is 8 years old and its productive life is around 30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your pomegranate tree produces an average of 20kg of organic pomegranates each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __5kg box of organic pomegranates__ * Wonderful: bright red pomegranate, both inside and out. Its arils (seeds) are small and semi-hard, with a sweet taste but a characteristic hint of bitterness * The box includes one extra pomegranate of the Mollar variety so that you can try it; you'll be able to distinguish it as its skin is less intensely red and the taste is much sweeter * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2015 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * We do not store the fruit in cold chambers, they go directly from the tree to your doorstep * One kilo contains between 2 and 3 fruits * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 4 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge)
When will you receive it?
We pick the fruit in autumn, starting in early October and continuing until mid-November. In this period, you'll receive the harvest from your tree.
