organic walnuts (peeled)
Finca el Entredicho
You are too late to adopt a walnut tree from this Farmer. Check out the other projects.

The project

Adopt {publicVariety} from the farm "{farmName}" in {cityfarm} ({countryFarm}) and receive your harvest in the form of {production} at home. The Farmer {farmerName} will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

What do you adopt?
Adopt {publicVariety} that we cultivate based on the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union. During the process of adoption you can choose a name that we will engrave on a plaque and hang on your tree. Our walnuts are of unknown local varieties, which are traditionally cultivated in our area because they adapt best to our climate. Each {variety} bears an average of {masterUnitsMax}kg per season, which result in 1.5kg of peeled nuts. The productive life of {publicVariety} is around 25 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your {variety} dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from other trees.
What will you receive?
By cracking the organic walnut we obtain, from the same quantity and quality, different sizes. 2 x __Walnut, halved__, vacuum-packed (0.5kg packages) 1 x __Walnut, quartered__, vacuum-packed (0.5kg package) The vacuum-packed half kg format allows them to be opened gradually depending on consumption for better preservation. The vacuum pack can be stored for one year. Once opened you will have to keep the walnut in a hermetically sealed container in a dry and fresh place. Vacuum packing is the only way to preserve our nuts. We pack them immediately after the parting process, avoiding any type of contamination of the product and guaranteeing the conservation of all the properties of the nut and its organoleptic characteristics, its flavour, texture, colour, smell and the appropriate level of humidity. The carbon footprint of the cracked walnut is significantly lower than that of the shelled walnut. During transport, the weight is reduced by 3 to 4 times and the volume by 6 to 7 times. On the other hand, through vacuum conservation, and thanks to our climate we avoid the electrical consumption of cold rooms.
When will you receive it?
Please, check the deadline for participating in this project (deadline for adoption) below. As of this date the Farmer will start preparing the orders that are to be shipped. You may select the delivery date of your box as suggested by the Farmer at check-out.
Why should you adopt?
* Learn who produces your food, how and where. Receive your food in a conscious manner. * Buy directly from the farmer. Help to generate wealth and better jobs in the rural areas. * Plan ahead and enable the Farmer to produce on demand. This way we can avoid overproduction and fight food waste. * Reward Farmers who make an effort to use environmentally-friendly packaging and cultivation techniques.

Miguel Martínez Pozo
For five generations our family has been dedicated to agriculture in the mountains northwest of Murcia. In 2004 we decided to go back to our origins and commit ourselves to a totally ecological production. Recently our generation has joined with great enthusiasm (the brothers Miguel, Javier and Encarna). We work together with Carmen and Rafael, who pass on to us the knowledge of their long experience. When joining we decided to go one step further: sell the organic nuts already processed and take them to the final consumer. For this we have invested in the best technology on the market for peeling, sorting, cracking and parting our nuts, but always trying to minimize the carbon footprint. We vacuum-pack the nuts immediately after splitting to prevent contamination of the product and to ensure that they reach our customers in perfect condition. With this small industry we offer jobs in rural areas and contribute to curbing depopulation.

"We started with our own walnuts because we wanted to offer our walnuts directly from the farmer to the final consumers, minimising intermediaries and opting for greater integration. We have a nut with an intense flavour, people define it as "old-fashioned walnuts" and we want consumers to be able to appreciate and enjoy them. Valuing a nut grown with organic farming and a family committed to the conservation of nature and rural life."

Finca el Entredicho
Our walnut forest has been in the family for five generations. The farm is located in the Finca "El Entredicho", located in a valley at the foot of the massif Macizo de Revolcadores. It is located next to pine and oak forests in the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz located in the northwest of the Region of Murcia, bordering the Sierra de Segura, the southeastern and southern Spanish provinces of Albacete and Granada. The farm is located at 1,200 meters altitude with cold winter temperatures and snow every year. The area is blessed with Mediterranean sunshine most of the year. The porosity of the soils allows our walnut trees to take advantage of the water from rain and thaw. We pick our walnuts between September and October when they reach their optimum point. The drying of our nuts is done in the most traditional and environmentally friendly way, in the sun. The facilities for the processing of our nuts, where they are cracked and prepared for final consumption, are on the same farm, so transport is minimized and low winter temperatures allow us to preserve the product without having to resort to cold storage. In addition we use the nutshells as fuel for the heating of our facilities and we dry our nuts in the sun. __Ecological:__ we only use phytosanitary products approved under ecological regulations. __Regenerative agriculture:__ beyond organic farming, helping the physical and biological regeneration of the soil. Our sheep graze in the walnut forest, eliminating weeds and fertilizing the soil in a natural way. __Dry:__ Our farm is located in the Mediterranean basin, with low rainfall. Our walnut trees are only irrigated by rain, snow and melt water. This shortage of water makes our walnuts darker and smaller, giving them a more concentrated and much more intense flavour.
