Adopt a mango tree from the "Finca Clavero" farm in Vélez-Málaga (Spain) and receive your organic Tommy atkins mangoes at home. Alejandro will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt a mango tree from our farm in Vélez-Málaga (Spain). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2021. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your mango tree. My family has been growing mangos on our farm for more than three decades. Our earliest ripening variety is the Tommy Atkins, which is ready to be harvested at the end of August. Our mangos trees are fully grown, as they were planted by my grandfather back in the 1980s. Ours was one of the first farms to grow this delicious and exotic fruit in the region. They're about three metres high and have white painted trunks to prevent diseases. The yield may vary, but they usually produce fifteen kilos of fruit per season. The Tommy Atkins variety comes from Florida and originated in the first half of the twentieth century. It's named after the man who discovered the cultivar. And he certainly left us a legacy that we can still enjoy today. We grow our fruit with lots of love and in an environmentally friendly and organic way. I'm the third generation to take charge of this wonderful task and I've worked hard to modernise the farm. The two main points have been gaining the organic certificate and changing the irrigation system, so as not to waste a single drop of water. Year after year, I'm thrilled to see the trees full of fruit and read all the positive comments from our followers congratulating us on our high quality and hard work. This is without question the best reward that we can get. Your adoption is 16 years old and its maximum lifespan is 50 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your mango tree produces an average of 10kg of organic Tommy atkins mangoes each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __2,5kg box of organic mangoes__ * Tommy Atkins (August - September): oval shape; medium size; soft orange skin with red hues; fibrous flesh; sweet and mild flavour * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2021 * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 3 and 5 fruits * Keep them at room temperature until they are ripe, once they are fully ripe put them in the fridge to keep them longer * It is a climacteric fruit which is harvested when it reaches physiological maturity; after being picked from the tree it then continues to ripen until it has reached its optimum point for consumption
When will you receive it?
Our mangos start reaching the optimal point of ripeness at the end of August, so we can extend the harvest until mid-September.
