You adopt an avocado tree from our farm in Vélez-Málaga (Spain). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union since 2021. Alejandro will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you have received your organic avocados and enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

What do you adopt?

You adopt an avocado tree from our farm in Vélez-Málaga (Spain). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union since 2021. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your avocado tree. At Finca Clavero we grow Hass avocados, which are the most popular variety in the world. You'll easily recognise this variety as it produces a fruit with a bumpy skin that turns almost black when ripe. The Hass avocados on our farm come from a medium-sized tree (approximately three metres tall). It’s an evergreen tree with an intense green colour, and we control its height with pruning. This variety comes from California, where it was first grown by the horticulturist Rudolph Gustav Hass in the 1920s. The avocado trees on our farm are about ten years old and are in full production. Our farm is a family farm that was first run by my grandfather. I've been managing the farm and overseeing the transition to organic since my father passed away. I firmly believe in the organic concept as it's in line with our way of understanding life. Your adoption is 12 years old and its productive life is around 40 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your avocado tree produces an average of 20kg of organic avocados each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve at the moment of adoption. You will be able to receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 4 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __5kg box of organic avocados__ * Hass avocado (December-March): pear-shaped, dark green skin that turns black when ripe, yellowish pulp with a nutty flavour, very creamy texture, small stone * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2021 * We do not store the fruit in cold chambers, they go directly from the tree to your doorstep * The box includes some extra fruits, in case some of them arrive damaged * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 6 and 8 fruits (the box contains between 30 and 40 fruits depending on the size) * It is a climacteric fruit, harvested when it reaches physiological ripeness but continues to evolve after harvesting until it is ready for consumption * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 20 days in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * Important: The fruits usually arrive hard, keep them at room temperature until they reach they are ready to eat; if you receive an already ripe piece, you can put it in the fridge or eat it straight away

When will you receive it?

Hass avocados are a fruit with a long harvest season that lasts most of the winter, beginning in December and ending in late February.
