Adopt a grapefruit tree from the farm "Finca Capellanía" in Zurgena (Spain) and receive your harvest in the form of Demeter organic grapefruit at home. The Farmer Pedro will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
Adopt a grapefruit tree that we cultivate under the Organic Farming since 2003 and Demeter regulations of the European Union since 2016 During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your grapefruit tree. Our grapefruits trees were planted in our farm called “Capellanía” in 2003. Since their plantation, they have been managed according to organic farming regulations. Capellanía is located in Valle del Almanzora, Almería. Multiple varieties of citrus can be found in the farm, where the grapefruit trees differentiate as they have leafy leaves and are not too tall (no more than 3 metres). The current grapefruit has its origin in the Barbados islands in the XVII century. It is based on a mixture of a sweet orange and a pummelo (*Citrus Granis*), a citrus that grows wild in Asia. Our grapefruits are from the variety Star Ruby, originated in Texas (USA) in the 50s, the trees have a smooth bark coloured in yellow and reddish tones. Each grapefruit tree gives 100kg per year approximately. The farm has around 2000 trees that are watered through efficient trickle irrigation. Our grapefruits have an intense red pulp, produces rich juice, almost seedless and with a sweet and sour taste. You can directly use our grapefruits or make juice with them, they are delicious! We have been working on the farm for more than 30 years. We have followed organic regulations since its plantation. We were pioneers in organic farming in Spain, even before they were official certifications we were already working with other sustainable agricultural standards. We combine cultural practices inherited from our grandparents with modern technology. We look forward to obtaining a highly efficient use of natural resources, without losing the nature of traditional agriculture. Since 2016, we have additionally been applying techniques of biodynamic agriculture. When few people took into consideration the effort of cultivating crops in an environmentally-friendly manner, we were already supporting sustainable agriculture. The productive life of a grapefruit tree is around 50 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your grapefruit tree dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. A grapefruit tree from our farm produces an average of 100 kg each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with the amount you reserve. This way you will only pay for what you consume and we can plan and sell the remaining harvest amount to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 10 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account.
