The project

Adopt an olive tree from the "Finca Campomanes" farm in Mérida (Spain) and receive your multi-variety extra virgin olive oil at home. Inés y Pablo will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt an olive tree from our farm in Mérida (Spain) that we cultivate following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union. We are already in the process of converting and expect to be officially certified by 2025. The olive tree is one of the most widely grown trees in the Mediterranean Basin. Its cultivation dates back to Neolithic times, but its origin is still not exactly known. Many historians believe that it comes from Syria, but there's also evidence that wild olive trees used to grow in North Africa, Spain and Greece. We'd like you to adopt one of our olive trees of the Manzanilla Cacereña, Ergot and Verdial varieties that were planted here at Finca Coto de Campomanes by our ancestors. When we say our ancestors, we're talking about quite some time as we belong to the eighth generation of a family that has always run the farm. We're fully aware of the very high value of our farm's natural heritage, so we want to preserve this by implementing agricultural practices that respect the environment, which reflects the practices that our ancestors passed down to us. We use water responsibly here, as our olive grove is rainfed. What's more, we have sheep and pigs that graze freely throughout the olive grove, providing the best compost to our trees and helping to regenerate the soil. Respect for our environment was always a question of principles for us, but we hadn't given much importance to organic certification. However, we decided to certify ourselves in organic farming so that an external body can verify the good practices that we implement at our olive grove. We're very excited about this project and we're looking forward to sharing with you the lessons that we learn thanks to this new adventure. Olive groves have always been a key element for the environment in much of Spain, as they're home to lots of Iberian fauna and play an active role in preventing erosion, and therefore desertification. We always collect the olives during the day so as not to disturb the birds sleeping. Your adoption is 122 years old and its maximum lifespan is 200 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units.

What will you receive?

Each season we will send you a box with: 2 x __Multi-variety Extra Virgin Olive Oil__ (2,5 l, tin) Multi-variety extra virgin olive oil, made from Manzanilla Cacereña, Ergot and Verdial olives. Our olive oil is extracted through a cold extraction process, which fully respects the flavours and aromas of the freshly harvested olive. As the weather is different every year, each harvest is unique, but our extra virgin olive oil always has an intense green colour, aromatic complexity and a remarkable tanginess and bitterness, thanks to the high levels of polyphenols. A good olive oil can be used in many ways. We recommend using Campomanes extra virgin olive oil on bread, as a dressing for salads or for a whole host of other dishes. It can also be used to prepare emulsions or to pan-grill and fry food. Keep the oil in a dark container away from direct light and heat, which are the two biggest enemies of oil. The best before date is 18 months from production (November).

When will you receive it?

The olives are harvested in late October and early November. Every afternoon the freshly harvested olives are milled to obtain the highest quality oil through a cold extraction process. This oil, once filtered and canned, will be sent to your homes from November until stocks run out.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
