Adopt an avocado tree from the farm "Finca Aguasvivas" in Artana (Spain) and receive your avocados at home. Héctor will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you have received your avocados and enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
You adopt an avocado tree from our farm in Artana (Spain) that we cultivate following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union. We are already in the process of converting and expect to be officially certified by 2024. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your avocado tree. Our avocado trees are of the hass and lamb hass varieties. The Hass avocado is the best known variety in the world. It comes from a seed of the Guatemalan race, and has been developed in the Rudolph Hass orchard in California since 1926. The tree is large and grows fastly, sometimes reaching up to more than 12 meters in height. In the wild, its leaves, if rubbed with the hands, give off a soft aroma of anise. The tree is quite round, with a cylindrical shape seen from above. You can enjoy Lamb Hass avocados from March until the end of May. The origin of this variety comes from the University of California, it came about from efforts to improve upon the Hass avocado variety, as well as increasing its volume and production. The trees usually have a more vertical shape, rather similar to pines. They do not become too wide, rather they seek the sunlight by growing upwards. The new shoots produce the most fruits, and the branches begin growing vertically before descending towards the ground as the fruits grow and gain weight. The good work we have put in over the years has led us to achieve the Castellón Ruta de Sabor hallmark for both varieties of Avocados, which endorses us in terms of the quality and flavour of our fruits. As new generation farmers, we are more aware of climate change and caring for the environment and our surroundings. Due to this, in 2021 we decided to change our farming method to become organic. We are currently in an exciting process of conversion at our family farm, where we continue to work consciously to improve our farming day by day with the goal of becoming sustainable. Your adoption is 3 years old and its productive life is 50 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops being able to produce for any reason, we will replace it with an other, and we guarantee your delivery from the produce of others for that season. Your avocado tree produces an average of 50kg of avocados each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
You can reserve between 0 and 0 boxes for the season, and then progressively plan the delivery of your boxes for any of the delivery dates available in the shipment calendar. Shipping format: __4kg box of avocados__ * Lamb Hass (April - May): pear-shaped, medium-large size, rough skin, green colour that turns black when ripe, creamy texture, more intense flavour, greater amount of fat * Hass avocado (December - April): pear-shaped, dark green skin that turns black when ripe, yellowish pulp with a nutty flavour, very creamy texture, small stone * Farming in conversion to Organic Farming since 2020 * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * The box includes some extra fruits, in case some of them arrive damaged * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 3 and 5 fruits (the box contains between 12 and 20 fruits depending on the size) * It is a climacteric fruit which is harvested when it reaches physiological maturity; after being picked from the tree it then continues to ripen until it has reached its optimum point for consumption * Important note: the fruits usually arrive hard; to ripen them, keep them at room temperature until they are ready to eat; if you receive some fruit that is already ripe, you can either eat it straight away or keep it in the fridge Consumption recommendation: Cut the fruit in half and remove the avocado seed, cut the pulp into strips or dice, and then use a spoon to scoop up the pieces and enjoy! Store the avocados in a cool, dry place so they last longer. If you want them to ripen more quickly you can find a warm place, wrap them in paper, and surround them with other fruits such as apples or bananas.
When will you receive it?
The harvesting season is usually from January to March for the Hass, and from March to May for the Lamb Hass. Sometimes, if the weather is mild, the Lamb Hass can last until the beginning of June.
