What do you adopt?
Adopt {publicVariety} that we cultivate based on the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union. During the process of adoption you can choose a name that we will engrave on a plaque and hang on your tree. Our farm has 1200 olive trees spread over 14 hectares. It is certified in Organic Farming and accredited under the PDO of Nyons. We work with only one variety adapted to the soil: the Tanche. The Tanche is the emblematic variety of the Pays de Nyons and the Baronnies Provençales. It is the only variety that has been able to adapt well to this territory. Resistant to cold and drought, its sensitivity to wind and humidity limits its implantation in other French olive growing areas. Most of the trees froze during the 1956 cold wave, as did those in all of France and the Maghreb. In Nyons alone, half of the olive trees did not survive these temperatures. They were therefore recovered, i. e. cut low to the ground, and then all grew back little by little. This is why all our olive trees are on average a little over 60 years old. Some, on the other hand, where not affected and may be 150 or even 200 years old! Each olive tree produces between 5 and 20 kg of olives. These are trees that are not watered and the ratio for oil is 4 kg of olives to make one litre. In 2014, we were awarded the gold medal at the French Olive Oil Competition in the Nyons PDO. The productive life of {publicVariety} is around 150 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your {variety} dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from other trees.
What will you receive?
The box we will send you contains: 1 x __Organic extra virgin Olive Oil PDO Nyons__ (3 liter cube, "Bag-in-Box") The leading olive oil in France and produced in an exceptional terroir, Nyons. This olive oil is unctuous and is delicately aromatic. It's the first oil to obtain the Protected Denomination of Origin (PDO) in France, in 1994 . It has been accredited since 1997 by the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). Made only from the Tanche variety olives harvested in the designated area and pressed directly after harvesting (2 or 3 days maximum), Nyons olive oil reflects the typical characteristics of a unique area. An olive oil with delicate and subtle aromas: very smooth and slightly fruity, Nyons extra virgin olive oil offers aromas of green apple, hazelnut, fresh butter, a note of freshly cut grass, with a slight bitterness and ardence. The sweetness and subtlety of this oil can be explained by the variety of the local olive used, the Tanche, and by the time of olive harvesting, which takes place between November and January, which gives the olive a slight over ripeness. Our oil can be stored for up to 18 months or even a little longer in the pantry away from light and heat. 2 x __Organic Black Olives PDO Nyons__ (glass jar of 250 grams) The olive of Nyons is the French black olive par excellence. You can enjoy them as an aperitif or with a dash of Nyons PDO Olive Oil and/or Provence herbs. You can also, of course, use it in the kitchen: in eggplant caviar, ratatouille, cakes, fougasse, rabbit, etc. Unlike other fruits (cherry, apricot,...), the olive is a fruit that is not possible to eat as it is. For the table, it is necessary to remove the bitterness from the olive. We prepare the olives in brine, taking care to reduce the quantity of salt as much as possible (6 to 8% maximum against 10 to 12% usually). We use exclusively unrefined sea salt, which can be used in Organic Farming. The "brining" of olives is the most common way to preserve olives. During the preparation in brine, the olives are immersed for a few months in a "water and sea salt" preparation which causes them to lose their natural bitterness while preserving their original taste. This know-how, which is characteristic of the Pays de Nyons and the Baronnies, allows the smooth flesh and natural taste of the olive to be preserved. The Tanche then takes its final colour "bure de moine" (“cowl) and improves for 5 to 6 months. Thanks to the preparation in brine, our black olives can be kept for 3 years at room temperature in their original glass jars. 2 x __Organic PDO Nyons olive paste__ (glass jar of 180 grams) Our olive paste is a pure organic black olive paste, sometimes supplemented by a fillet of PDO Nyons organic olive oil (which is quite rare because the Nyons olive has naturally an excellent oil yield). Delicious as an aperitif, it can be used as a tapenade, on toast or in a small bowl to dip celery and carrot sticks, etc. It can also be enjoyed in an omelette, in a “Petit Épeautre” (small spelt) salad, on a slice of bread with fresh goat cheese, on a fish fillet or in a rabbit in a casserole dish. Our pasteurized olive paste can also be stored for up to 3 years at room temperature in the original glass jars.
When will you receive it?
Please, check the deadline for participating in this project (deadline for adoption) below. As of this date the Farmer will start preparing the orders that are to be shipped. You may select the delivery date of your box as suggested by the Farmer at check-out.
Why should you adopt?
* Learn who produces your food, how and where. Receive your food in a conscious manner. * Buy directly from the farmer. Help to generate wealth and better jobs in the rural areas. * Plan ahead and enable the Farmer to produce on demand. This way we can avoid overproduction and fight food waste. * Reward Farmers who make an effort to use environmentally-friendly packaging and cultivation techniques.

Elizabeth Renard
I am Elisabeth Renard and with my partner Christian we are producers in Organic Farming, settled in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Baronnies Provençales for 30 years and we would like to invite you to discover the products that we both grow all year round. We arrived from the Paris region more than thirty years ago. We had decided to abandon the grey sky and went down south. Once in the Rhône Valley, we had to choose: East or West? It could have been the region of Ardèche but it became the Drôme. We learned the "trade" as farm workers, then, 10 years later, we started. First with a herd of 250 sheep and a few... olive trees. Twelve years later, we sold the herd to keep the olive trees in order to specialize in olive growing because the climate in the region is very favourable. We have recovered a small farm with cherry trees, apricots, and land to cultivate small spelt, vines and, of course, olive trees. Maintained with respect to the neighbouring farmer until then, we naturally transformed it into Organic Farming and enlarged it with olive groves.....This work of the olive tree has gradually turned into a passion and the number of olive trees has not stopped growing. So we continue to learn and grow, having nature as our greatest teacher. Gradually we managed to have more abundant and healthier harvests, a university degree in Oleology from the University of Montpellier in 2011 for Christian, a gold medal for the PDO Nyons olive oil in 2014 for Elisabeth and finally an induction into the Confrérie des Chevaliers de l'Olive de Nyons for Christian in 2015.

"We are happy to share our passion for the olive trees with the CrowdFarming family and to connect with the end consumers. We hope you enjoy discovering the fruits of this thousand-year-old culture: our Olive Oil PDO Nyons, as well as our table olives and olive paste - all of them are organic products."

Ferme des Grétières
Ferme des Grétières
Our farm is located in the Drôme Provençale with its hills, fruit trees, vines, herds and the famous Mont Ventoux in the background. It is located in the commune of Beauvoisin at the top of a road, nestled at an altitude of 675 metres, on a mountainside. This region is very favourable to olive growing and olive trees have been cultivated here since ancient times, particularly because of the exceptional amount of sunshine in the area. Today we have 1200 olive trees, all 60 years old or more. We do most of the work ourselves with just one external backup for harvesting. We have our olives pressed at the Dozol Mill in Nyons but we store and package our oil directly at home. When we take time to enjoy the efforts made and the results achieved, we can be proud of the progress we have made.
