The project

Adopt 0.5m² of a watermelon plot from "Famille Audema" in Vergèze (France) and receive your organic watermelons at home. Pierre-Olivier will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt 0.5m² of a watermelon plot from our farm in Vergèze (France). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2002. The watermelon belongs to the cucurbit family, like melons do. It is originally from Africa, and it later arrived in Europe via Spain. The watermelon is grown on mounds of earth. At the beginning of the season, the watermelons are protected from the cold by greenhouses and tunnels (metal hoops covered with plastic), then they are cultivated in the open field in the middle of the season (summer). We mainly grow the Vanessa hybrid variety. For proper pollination, as this seedless variety has sterile pollen, we plant rows of Premium pollinator varieties with viable pollen. Its cycle lasts 80 to 100 days, depending on the season. Watermelons planted earlier in the season need more time to mature. The plants are drip-irrigated to provide the exact amount of water necessary for their proper growth. We check the evapotranspiration (ETT) daily in order to assess the amount of water needed. In season, we harvest watermelons every day to choose only the fruits that have reached full maturity. Your watermelon plot produces an average of 24kg of organic watermelons each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

What will you receive?

You can reserve between 2 and 6 boxes for the season, and then plan the deliveries for any of the delivery dates available in the shipment calendar. Shipping format: __ 3.9 kg box of organic watermelons__ * Vanessa variety: green bark not streaked, red interior, no seeds, sweet taste and very refreshing texture * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2002 * The watermelon is enough in itself, to be enjoyed fresh on its own, or in a salad with feta and fresh mint * One kilo equals half a watermelon (the box contains 2 fruits) * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * To protect the plants and ensure their growth, this product is grown with the help of additional artificial structures (outdoor cultivation under tunnels) * If you keep them in the fridge, they can last up to 10 days in good condition

When will you receive it?

You can receive the watermelons we harvest all summer long.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
