The project

Adopt 3m² of a melon plot from "Famille Audema" in Vergèze (France) and receive your organic melons at home. Pierre-Olivier will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt 3m² of a melon plot from our farm in Vergèze (France). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2002. We are offering you the opportunity to adopt a plot of Charentais melons. Egyptians began growing the melon several centuries ago, before it arrived in Italy around the 1st century. It was not until much later that it spread to Charente, from where this type of melon gets its name. It belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family and is an annual herbaceous plant, planted manually in late spring. We collect the plants from seeds that were sowed in raised mounds covered with biodegradable plastic to warm the soil and protect against weeds. The plants are drip-irrigated to provide the exact amount of water necessary for their proper growth. We check the ETT (Evapotranspiration) daily to assess the amount of water needed. Melon cultivation varies depending on the harvest period. Early melons are grown in greenhouses, while those grown at higher temperatures are grown under caterpillars (low tunnel with metal hoops) and then completely in the field from July onwards. We have chosen to only send you melons grown under hoops or in open fields. The melon cycle lasts between 100 and 70 days, shortening as temperatures rise. Your melon plot produces an average of 28.2kg of organic melons each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

What will you receive?

You can reserve between 2 and 6 boxes for the season, and then plan the deliveries for any of the delivery dates available in the shipment calendar. Shipping format: __ 4.7kg box of organic melons__ * Yellow Charentais: light green bark, round and ribbed with firm orange flesh, sweet and juicy * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2002 * This melon is perfect on its own to be enjoyed as it is, chilled or in a salad * To protect the plants and ensure their growth, this product is grown with the help of additional artificial structures (open-ground cultivation under hoops) * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * One kilo contains about 1 fruit (the box contains between 4 and 6 fruits depending on the size) * If you keep them in the fridge, they can last up to 10 days in good condition

When will you receive it?

You will receive the melons we harvest all summer long.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
